\*AMY MARCH'S SLIPPERS\*

a tiny owl knits pattern by Stephanie Dosen I'm a serious Little Women watcher. To me, little Amy March is a real little girl. I bet she wears little slippers just like these. With Amy, the bigger the bow, the better! = Beginner = Intermediate = Advanced Owl Experience Level: Size: These are “knitted to fit". Should fit most widths. Yarns used: Super bulky yarn such as: Brown Sheep, Lamb's pride bulky 113 g - 125 yds - 114 m, 85% Wool 15% Mohair, WPI 5-6, Color sandy heather, Color No, Mo1, No. of balls: 1 Tension/gauge: Work 14 sts to measure 4” in St stitch using 6 mm or US 10 (or needles needed to get gauge.)
Notions:
A set of US 1o (6 mm) dpns (you could also use circular sock needles or magic loop), about 2 yds of ribbon, about one yd of vintage lace (or new lace dyed with tea), tapestry needle.
Pattern notes:
Slippers are started in the round just like a toe-up sock. If you have a favorite toe-up method, feel free to use it! On row 2l: you will begin to work straight in St st for the rest of the foot. You can switch to long straight needles if you are more comfortable with them. You wont be knitting in the round again for the rest of the slipper. Tiny owl stich ditionary. close wrap: When working w&t, the wrap creates a little bar at the base of the st. Next time you get to the st, you'll need to pick up any bars created and knit or purl them together with the stitch as follows. Note: instructions differ for RS and WS. RS close wrap: Insert right needle into the bar(s) at the bottom of the next st from bottom to top. Now knit bar(s) together With that st. WS close wrap: Insert right needle into the bar(s) at the bottom of the next stitch from bottom to top. Place it on the left needle and purl the bar(s) together with that stitch. CO: cast on cont: continue/continuing dpns: double pointed needles foll: follows/ following kfb: knit into front and back of stitch (creates a new st) k: knit k2tog: knit the next two stitches together. p: purl pwise: purlwise rep: repeat RS: right side ssk: slip next 2 sts knitwise onto your right needle, insert left needle purlwise into the front of the sts and knit them tog. w&t: wrap & turn. Note: instructions differ RS and WS. Ready? Let's go! (Make 2)
Using size US 10.5 (6.5mm) dpns and MC, cast on 12 sts using your favorite cast-on method for toe-up socks. If you don't have a favorite method, cast on as follows: Using size US 10.5 (6.5mm) dpns and MC, cast on 12 sts and then: 1. Hold needle in left hand. 2. Hold 2 empty dpns parallel in right hand. 3. Slip 1st st purlwise onto needle closest to you, then slip the next st purlwise onto the needle furthest away. Repeat step 3 until all 12 stitches are divided up. You'll have 6 sts on the front needle and 6 sts on the back. Place a stitch marker at beg of round and join in the round. Slip marker when it is reached at beg of each round and switch to more double-pointed needles when necessary. Round 1: Knit. Round 2: Kfb, k3, kfb, k1, kfb, k3, kfb, k1.16 sts. Round 3:This and all other odd rounds until noted:Knit. Round 4: Kfb, k5, kfb, k1, kfb, k5, kfb, k1. 20 sts. Round 6: Kfb, k7, kfb, k1, kfb, k7, kfb, k1. 24 sts. Round 8: Kfb, k9, kfb, k1, kfb, k9, kfb, k1. 28 sts. Round 9 - 13: Knit. Round 14: K16, \*p1, k1; rep from \* to end. Round 15 - 19: Repeat round 14. Round 20: K17, slip next 8 sts onto a stitch holder. Turn. Now remove stitch marker and work St st in rows as foll: Row 21: (WS) Purl 20. Turn. Row 22: (RS) Knit 20. Turn. Cont St st in rows until the work comes to your ankle bone (the end of your arch.) about 7" for US 7 1/2 foot. You are ready to turn the heel. There are lots of good tutorials online for turning a short row heel. You can do this any way you'd like but here's how I do it: Skip to \*^v^\* if you want to skip heel turning instructions. Turning the heel Part 1: (Begin on a RS row) Row 1: K15, w&t. Row 2: P10, w&t. Row 3: K9, w&t. Row 4: P8, w&t. Row 5: K7, w&t. Row 6: P6, w&t. Turning the heel Part 2: Row 7: K6, close wrap, w&t. Row 8: P7, close wrap, w&t. Row 9: K8, close wrap, w&t. Row 10: P9, close wrap, w&t. Row 11: K10, close wrap, k4. Row 12: P15, close wrap, p4. \*八v八\* Row 1: Slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit to end. Row 2: Slip 1 stitch purlwise, purl to end. Do not bind off, Break yarn and later weave end in securely after you've finished the next section.
Finishing up:
You still have live sts atheel & on your stitch holder solet's take care of that. Thread a tapestry needle with some spare yarn. (Yarn with elastic, or elasticity is very handy here.) Beginning at the middle of the live ribbed sts on top of foot, weave yarn through 4 live sts, weave through sts down side of foot, weave through live heel sts, down other side of foot, and weave through the final 4 live sts. Tie yarn in a double-knotted bow. For the final touch, attach ribbons and lace to the front and tie them in a big ol' fluffy vintage bow.

Now all you got to do is put them on & do some seriously quiet tap dancing! Then cuddle up in front of the fireplace to read Little Women! Love, Stephanie xoxo
