BEEHIVE TASSEL TOP
This simple hat is a perfect starter project. Simple to make and oh so cozy.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
MATERIALS 1 skein of ONTHEROUND heavy worsted or 200 yds of other worsted weight yarn. U.S. Size 9 16" circlular and double point needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. Tapestry needle, a stitch marker. 4 sts = 1" in stockinette st. SIZES Child, Adult S, Adult L FINISHED DIMENSIONS Circumference: 17%", 20", 22%" ABBREVIATIONS: inc. - increase K -Knit K2tog - knit 2 sts together P - Purl St(s) - Stitch(es)
INSTRUCTIONS
HAT: With the 16" circular needle cast on 70 (80, 90) sts., join being careful not to twist and place marker. Working in the round, knit 4 rounds. Purl 4 rounds - repeat these 8 rounds 4(5, 5) more times . Knit 2(2, 4) rounds even. Start decreases for top, switching to double point needles when rounds get too tight.
CROWN SHAPING:
Note: change to double point needles wben sts no longer fit comfortably on circular needle. Set-up Round:\* K8, k2tog, repeat from\*. 63(72, 81 sts) remain. Next round: \*K7, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K6, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K5, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K4, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K3, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K2, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next round: \*K1, k2tog, repeat from \*. Next Round: \*K2tog, repeat from\*. 7(8, 9 sts) remain. Next Round: \*K2tog, repeat from\*, end K1(K2tog, K1) 4(4, 5 sts) remain. Continue working the remaining sts until tail meassures 4". Cut yarn leaving an 8 inch tail. Thread tapestry needle and pull yarn through remaining stitches and pull tightly to close the hole at the top of tail and secure. Tie a knot near the base of the hat. Weave in all ends.
