If using a 40cm/16" circular needle, change to dpns when hat circumference is too small to fit comfortably on your needles. Round 12 (p1,k6) seven times around, p the first stitch of the next round. Round 13 and all following rows start after this stitch so you may need to move your stitch marker. Round 13 (c3b, k2, k2 tog) seven times around - 42 stitches remain. This is the last row of the cablepattern.

Round 14 knit all stitches Round 15 (k4, k2tog) seven times around - 35 stitches Round 16 (k3,k2tog) seven times around - 28 stitches Round 17 (k2, k2tog) seven times around - 21 stitches Round 18 (k1,k2tog) seven times around - 14 stitches Round 19 (k2tog) seven times around - 7 stitches Cut yarn leaving a long tail.
