Montrose Slouchy Hat: A Winter Wardrobe Essential with Classic Elite Inca Alpaca Yarn

The texture of the purl bumps in the Triple-L stitch reminded us of gravel and stone, so we named it Montrose (a quarry tovwn in PA). This stitch pattern looks intricate, but it's worked with one color per round. Cute, slouchy, wearable - a winter wardrobe essential.

Materials:

Classic Elite inca Alpaca (50g, 109yds; 100% alpaca) 1 skein ea. 1158 Rio Red (Cl), l103 Amarino Grey (C2) Classic Elite Inca Marl (50g, 109 yds; 100 alpaca) 1 skein l126 Jasper (C3) 16" circular needles in sizes 3 (3.25mm) & 6 (4.0mm) or size needed to obtain gauge 24 sts and 24 rows = 4" in Triple-L stitch, lightly blocked Finished Measurments: One size,to fit average women's size head (20")

Triple-L Stitch (or see chart)

Round 1: \*in Cl, sllwyib, k2. Round 2: \*in Cl, sllwyib, p2 Round 3: \*in C2, k2, sllwyib. Round 4: \*in C2, p2, sllwyib. Round 5: \*in C3, kl, sllwyib, kl. Round 6: \*in C3, pl, sllwyib, pl. @ 2009 Rosie Knits. Not to be reproduced, re-knit or taught for profit

Directions:

Brim

Using smaller circular needles and C2 (grey), cast on 120 sts. Join, without twisting, for working in the round. Work 2x2 rib for 1" from cast on edge. Switch to larger circular needles and knit one round. Pattern Setup Round: Using C3 (jasper), \* k2, ml; rep from \* to end of round. Work Chart A for a total of 8 times (48 rounds), then work rounds 1 & 2 once more, placing markers after every 30 sts on round 2.

Crown

Begin Round 3 of Chart B, and continue working Chart B until there are 9 sts in each section.

Pattern illustration

Work Chart C, working to 3 sts before marker on odd rows, then k3tog. Break yarn leaving a tail of 12". Thread through tapestry needle, bring through allive sts, and gently pull to close. Finishing: Weave in ends. Block lightly.
