Squishy Hat (three awesome patterns)
At STASH we LOVE bulky knitting because it is fast and fun while creating a knitted piece with personality and wow factor. These three squishy hat patterns are easy to knit, easier to customize, and can be made to fit any noggin!
Materials:
1 skein Ella Rae MEGA (1/2 skein makes 1 hat!) 1 16" long or 14" long 8 mm circular needle 1 24" long 15 mm circular needle 1 darning needle 1 stitch marker optional - 1 button (for buttoned variation) optional - 1 LG or XL pom pom maker (for pom pom detailing)

Abbreviations:
CO cast on K knit P purl St st Stockinette stitch - knitting all stitches when in the round (flat - K1 row, P1 row) Garter Garter stitch - when knitting flat, knit every stitch (round - K1 row, P1 row) K2tog Knit two stitches together (decrease) Row Knitting flat, as if on straight needles Round Knitting on circulars, joining your work in the round and maintaining a tube shape BO Bind off or Cast off stitches as directed
BASIC HAT!
Using the 8 mm needles, cast on 36 sts with either a cable cast on or long tail cast on. Join your work in the round (see diagram!) \*K2, P2\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 4 rounds. Using the 15 mm circular, knit ALL stitches in the next round - no more purling! (Put your 15 mm circ in your

right hand and knit onto it as if it were a straight needle. By the end of the round your 8mm needles will not have any stitches and can be put away while the 15 mm needles are now running theshow!) Continue to knit in the round in St St for 7 - sm (8 - med, 9 - Ig) rounds DEREASE TIME! O \*K4, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 round. K one round O \*K3, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 round. oK one round O \*K2, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 round. oK one round O \*K1, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 round. Do NOT cast off any stitches! Instead. Cut your yarn off, leaving a 20 cm tail, thread the tail onto the darning needle, and weave the tail through the remaining 12 stitches. Without tearing your yarn, pull tight and cinch the top of the hat closed! Poke your darning needle through the top of the hat so that the needle is on the inside of the hat. Turn your hat inside out and weave that end in for at least 1 inch. End with a split stitch and trim off the excess tail. Weave in your starting tail by threading the darning needle and weaving the end into knit stitches on the INSiDE of your hat, away from the brim or edge of the hat. End with a split stitch and trim the tail. If you want, add a pom pom!
BUTTONED HAT!
Using the 8 mm needles, cast on 44 sts with either a cable cast on or long tail cast on. Knit FLAT in garter st for 8 rows. (This is done by NOT joining your work in the round but instead pretending that your circular needles are two straight needles and turning your work at the end of each row!) BO 8 sts. This will leave you with 36 sts. Using the 15 mm circular, Knit all 36 sts and then join your work in the round (see diagram!) Knit in st st for 4 rounds DEREASE TIME! · \*K4, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 roul K one round \*K3, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 roul K one round \*K2, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 roul ·K one round \*K1, K2tog\* repeating the pattern between \*\* for 1 roul

SLOUCHY HAT!

Circular Knitting Tips:
Cast on your stitches as if onto a straight needle. Position your needle with the knitting yarn on the right needle. Check to make sure that all of your cast-on bumps are on the inside of your needle. Knit into the top left stich with the right needle. Knit until you reach the marker. Voila! One round complete! Keep going! · Circular needles are used when knitting tubes that are larger than the circumference of a tube knit on double point needles. Items such as neck cowls, hats, sleeves, sweaters, and bags are just some examples of what can be knit as a tube on a circular. ·Circulars are versatile - they can also be used to knit items flat!
