FALLFEVER
Autumn colors cover the trees, bushes and plants around my prairie home inspiring this comfy and warm hat which can be easily made in a couple of hours. The unique features of the knitted Indian Cross Stitch give the hat texture and appeal. The hat is knit in the round and can be made using a circular knitting needle with the magic loop method

of knitting_ or 5 double pointed knitting needles. Enjoy making this unique and fun hat that so reminds me of Fall. Size: Small (Medium, Large) Finished Measurements: Circumference of band: 20 (21, 22)" Hat Length: 9"
Yarn I used: Yarn Bee's-Andes Alpaca (Bulky 70% Acrylic, 30% Alpaca) 3.5 oz./120 yards
Color A (C-A): 1 skein #706 - Cinnamon Color B (C-B): 1 skein #708 - Moss Needles: : 5 - US 10 1/2 (6.5 mm) Double pointed knitting needles You can also use a 24" US 10 1/2 (6.5 mm) - circular knitting needle and the magic loop method to knit this hat. Gauge: 12 stitches and 19 rows = Approx. 4" x 4" in stockinette stitch on straight needles. Knitted Stitches Used: K2, P2 = knit 2 sts, purl 2 sts Indian Cross-Stitch = 2 row stitch, see \*Stitch Note\* for details. Stockinette Stitch = knit (RS), purl (WS) K2tog = Knit 2 together \*Stitch Note\*: Indian Cross Stitch (ICs) Is made in two rows and is similar to a "dropped" stitch only the "dropped" stitches are crossed. First row: Insert needle as if to knit, wrap 3 times and pull through loop, leaving wrapped stitch on the needle. Repeat this on every stitch in round. Second row: Insert needle as if to knit the stitch. You will unloop the 3 wraps of each stitch, unloop them 4 stitches at a time or in groups of 4 making 4 long loop stitches. Carefully, cross first 2 stitches over second 2 stitches, placing all 4 stitches back on left needle and knit long looped stitches in new order. All Indian Cross Stitches will be in groups of 4. Brim: Using C-A, cast on 56 (6o, 64) sts. I cast on with the knit on, cast on method. Row 1: Continuing to use C-A, work in the round, doing a ribbing pattern and use all 5 dpns, being careful not to twist the stitches. \*K2, P2; repeat from \* to end. Row 2-8: \*K2, p2; repeat from \* to end. Body: Row 9-14: Knit all sts using C-A. Rows 15 & 16: Switch to C-B, Knit all sts. Row 17: Work first row of ICS to end of row. Wrapping 3 loops in each knit stitch. Row 18: Work second row of ICS to end of row by unwrapping looped sts in groups of 4, and crossing first two sts over second two sts and knitting all 4 sts in new order. There should be 14 (15, 16) groups of 4 Indian Cross-Stitch in the 2 row pattern. Row 28: Work first row of ICS to end of row. Wrapping 3 loops in each knit stitch. Row 29: Work second row of ICS to end of row by unwrapping looped sts in groups of 4, and crossing first two sts over second two sts and knitting all 4 sts in new order. There should be 14 (15, 16) groups of 4 Indian Cross-Stitch in the 2 row pattern. Crown of hat: Row 39: \*K2tog repeat from \* to end 28 (30, 32) sts. Row 40: \*K2tog, P1 repeat from \* to end. 16 (20, 21) sts Row 41: \*K1, P1 repeat from \* to end. Row 42: \*K2tog repeat from \* to end 8 (10, 11) sts Row 43: \*K2tog repeat from \* to end 4 (5, 6) sts To Finish the hat: With a 15" tail, thread yarn with a yarn needle and thread remaining stitches.
