Ariadne
Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete, who owned an elaborate labyrinth below his palace floor. Tributes would come regularly and attempt to navigate the maze, but it was not until Ariadne fell in love with one of them and decided to help him - Theseus, the son of King Aegeas of Athens -that any one ever was successful. To escape her father, whom she knew would be angry at her treachery, Ariadne then ran off with Theseus when he left to return to Athens. But Theseus wasn't as taken with Ariadne as she was with him, and he dumped her on a deserted island on the way. But all was not lost for Ariadne, because the god Dionysus saw her there, and taking pity and falling in love with her, decided to make her his bride instead. In tribute to Aridadne, I have attempted to recreate the labyrinth here. Everything from the stair-step stitch to the twisting Moebius brings to mind a wandering path in which onecould easilybecomelost.

Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Happy Feet (90% Merino, 10% Nylon, 192 yards), one skein. That said, it is important to block your cowl when it is finished. Otherwise, it may feel (and look) like something that is going to strangle you alive. Instructions: Using a Moebius cast-on, cast on 96 stitches. Place marker, and work chart, beginning with round 1.
