Minecraft "Squid" by Ariadne Aranea

BEFOREYOUSTART
Yarn and things
You will need a small amount of main colour yarn (l used black, but you could also use dark blue or teal), plus scraps of white and dark red - allin DK weight or so. You will also need: 3.5m crochet hook Two 3mm dpns for the tentacles (unless you want to make them in crochet) Yarnneedle. Handful of toy stuffing Scraps of black and white felt or fun foam for the eyes
Anatomical note
Yes - squid in real life do have ten tentacles. In Minecraft, and in this pattern, they have eight.
INSTRUCTIONS
Body
Using MC, make a magic loop. Round 1: 8sc into the loop. Join to first st with with a slip stitch, tighten tail. ·Round 2: ch 1, \*\*3sc in sc, sc\*\* 4 times around. Join. Round 3: ch 1, \*\*3sc in sc, 3 sc\*\* 4 times round. Join. Round 4: ch 1, \*\*3sc in sc, 5sc\*\* 4 times around. Join. Round 5: ch 1, \*\*3sc into sc, 7sc\*\* 4 times around. Join. ·Round 6: ch 1, work back loop only for this round - 40 sc blo all around. Join. Rounds 7 to 15: ch1, 40sc around. Join. Round 16: ch 1, work blo for this round - \*\*decrease over next 3 stitches (i.e. insert hook, draw up a loop, in each of the 3 corner stitches until there are 4 loops on the hook - then yo and draw loop through all 4 loops on hook), 7sc\*\* 4 times around. Join. Round 17: ch 1, \*\*decrease over next 3 stitches, 5sc\*\* 4 times around. Join, switching from MC to WHITE yarn for next round. Round 18: ch 1, \*\*decrease over next 3 stitches, 3sc\*\* 4 times around. Join, switching from white to DARK RED for next round.. Stuff fairly lightly (otherwise it will bulge too much!) Round 19: ch 1, \*\*decrease over next 3 stitches, sc\*\* 4 times around. Join, and break yarn leaving enough tail to close the hole. Thread on the yarn needle and close hole.
Tentacles
I used 3mm dpns to make this (i-cord method) as follows Pick up 5 stitches along the free loops for the second blo round (the bottom edge of the cube). Use either the 5 stitches around a corner, or 5 central stitches along a side. Knit i-cord for 10 rows, and cast off. Repeat until you have 8 tentacles. You could also make these in crochet - just make 8 small tubes in crochet, using the same 5 starting stitches (the blo loops).
Finishing
Weave in loose ends. Cut two small squares of white felt / fun foam and two smaller black ones. Stick them on with craft glue (or sew them if you like), using the picture as a guide. All done!
