Bad Hat Mary

It got cold again in Oregon, so what is a girl to do? Knit a hat of course. There are a lot of slouchy hats out there, and all are glorious, but there is something to be said for a slouchy hat in super bulky knit on 15s that can be done in the length of 2 Audrey Hepburn movies.
Bad Hat Mary: Slouchy Hat
My gauge is 4 by 4 in 1 inch. Your gauge may differ.
Abbreviations:
St st. - Stockinette stitch M1 - Make one (increase of one stitch) - for example only YO - Yarn Over (increase of one stitch) - for example only Kf&b - Knit through front and back loops (increase of one stitch) Dec -Decrease Ssk - Slip two stiches, then knit them through the back loops. It makes a left leaning decrease.
Gather this:
2 skeins (you will use 1 and %) of Spud and Chloe Outer in color of yourchoice (You can use any super bulky. Ialso have used Malabrigo One big stitch marker Size 15 DPNs OR 1 16" Size 15 Circular Needle Tapestry needle "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "A Nun's Story" - 2 great Audrey Hepburn movies.
Then do this:
Cast on 42 stitches, place your big stitch marker, and then join for the round. Do I need to say it? Okay, don't twist your stitches, or this turns into a mobius hat, which can be hard to wear. Do a 1x1 rib for 2 inches (or more if you would like). I did a kf&b increase. You could do a M1 or YO, but keep in mind, those leave holes. K 1 round \*K 1, kf&b\* repeat \*\* to end of round (63 stitches on needles) K for 1 inch in St. st. $^{*}\mathsf{K}3$ , kf&b\* repeat \*\* to end of round (78 stitches on needles) K for 3 more inches in St. st. Decrease time! \*K5, sk\*, repeat \*\* to until 2 stitches before end of round, k2 (68 stitches on the needles) K1 round \*K4, ssk\*, repeat \*\* to 2 stitches before end of round, k2 (57 stitches on the needles) K 1 round \*K3, ssk\*, repeat \*\* to 2 stitches before end of round, k2 (46 stitches on the needles) K 1 round \*K2, ssk\*, repeat from \*\* to end of round (35 stitches on needles) K 1 round \*K1, ssk\*, repeat from \*\* to 2 stitches before end of round, k2 (24 stitches on the needles) Continue K1, ssk until you only have 11 stitches left (2 more decrease rounds, with a regular round in between each). Cut your yarn (about 5 inches), thread your tapestry needle, and run it through the remaining stitches. Pull it tight, and run the needle through the top of the hat, weave it through a couple of stitches then tie it off. This method, gives a cool litle spirally starry design on the top! Now, off you go with your hat, and a deeper understanding of Audrey Hepburn.
