Materials: 50 gms worsted weight wool, $16^{\prime\prime}$ US #6 $(4\,\mathsf{m m})$ and#8 $:5\,\mathsf{m m}$ circularneedles,6 stitch markers. Gauge: 17 sts 24 rows per $4^{\prime\prime}$ Will fit baby age 0-3 months Special stitches: c2b: Place 2 stitches on a cable needle and hold to the back, knit next 2 sts, knit 2 sts from cable needle.

c2f: Place 2 stitches on a cable needle and hold to the front, knit next 2 sts, knit 2 sts from cable needle.
work 2 sts together:
If the next 2 sts are both purl sts, p2tog. If the next 2 sts are both knit sts, k2tog. If the next st is purl and the following is knit, k2tog. If the next st is knit and the following is purl, p2tog. 1. CO 60 sts. Join in a round being careful not to twist the stitches. Place stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round. 2. Work k2, p2 ribbing for 18 rounds (about $3^{\prime\prime}$ , enough to fold up). 3. P1,\* k8, p2, repeat from \* around to last 9 sts, k8, p1. 4. Repeat step 3, 5 times. 5. p1, $\ast_{c2}\flat$ , c2f, p2, repeat from \* around to last 9 sts, c2b, c2f, p1. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until piece measures $5.5^{\prime\prime}$ from cast on edge. 7. Place markers after every 10 sts, 6 markers total. 8. Work in pattern to 2 stitches before marker, work 2 sts together, repeat around. 6 decreases total. 9. Work in pattern even. Do not work the cable if there are not enough sts. 10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 until 6 sts remain. Draw yarn through, pull tight and weave in ends. Optional tie top: Work to step 10, next round dec 2 sts. Work a 4 st l-cord for about $2^{\prime\prime}$ or enough to tie in a cutelittle knot.
