To me, the sea is like a person - like a child that I've known a long time. It sounds crazy, I know, but when I swim in the sea I talk to it. I never feel alone when I'm out there. (Gertrude Ederle) izquotes.com I can't believe it's time for Clue #4. I know some of you are ready for it because I've seen your socks onRavelry! I love all of them! I originally had standard toe shaping for this part of the sock. I think it looks good and is comfortable on the foot. This week though I decided to give you an option for a Star Toe. After thinking about it I felt that was a good fit for Laughing Waves as well. Gertrude Ederle was truly a star in her accomplishments and an inspiration. So the choice is up to you. The standard toe is first followed by thestartoe. t by knitting 2 rounds. That makes a nice pause between the pattern and the toe.

Standard Toe Shaping:

Round 1:

Needle 1: Knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. Needle 2: K1, SSK, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1. Needle 3: K1, SSK, knit to end of needle. Round 2: Knit across all 3 needles. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 7 (8, 9) sts. on each of needles 1 and 3, and 16 sts. on needle 2. You may need to have more on fewer stitches on the needles depending on the shape of the foot for the wearer of the sock! Adjust as you wish!

Finishing

Knit the stitches from needle 1 to needle 3. You now have your remaining stitches on two needles. Use the Kitchener stitch to graft the toe of the sock. Weave in ends and admire your beautiful socks! Or you may choose to knit a star toe.

Toe Shaping: Star Toe

I love this toe and it's fun to do. You may have to adjust the rounds because of the different sizes so you may reach Rnd. 13 sooner or later depending on size. When you get there, regardless of what round it is just keep repeating it! To begin, divide your work evenly onto 4 needles. You will be knitting with the 5th needle. The easiest way is to divide needle 2(the top of the sock) onto 2 different needles. Round 1 \*K2, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*: repeat from \* to\* Rounds2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and12: Knit all stitches. Round 3 \*K3, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*; repeat from \*to\* Round 5 \*K4, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*; repeat from \*to\* Round 7 \*K5, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*; repeat from \*to\* Round 9 \*K6, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*; repeat from \*to\* Round 11 \*K7, p1, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2tog\*; repeat from \*to\* Round 13 \*Knit to last 2 stitches on needle, p2 together\*; repeat from \*to\* Repeat Round 13 until there are 8 stitches total remaining-2 on each of the 4 needles. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 inch of tail. Weave yarn tail through remaining stitches and pull tightly. With a bent tip darning needle pull tail to inside of sock and weave in the loose ends. Thank you very much for joining me with this KAL. I know we have the KAL through September and I look forward to chatting with you and seeing your Laughing Waves laughing on your feet! Must knit now, Phyll
