Cast on 17 stitches, leaving a 6 inch tail of yarn to weave in later. Pattern (every row): Slip 1st stitch purlwise, knit to end of row. Repeat this row until desired length or 2 yards of yarn left. Bind off. Cut yarn leaving 6" tail. Thread it on a yarn needle. Go through last stitch on needle to close. Weave in and trim loose ends. 1) Use 2 different types of yarn held together, like a boucle and a worsted. 2) change colors for a striped effect. 3) For a narrow fashion scarf, use a novelty, synthetic yarn and cast on 12 stitches.
