YARN: Hauk Dalegarn Goldenrod 1 skein (50 grams = 109 yards, Pure New Wool); White Cotton for button (scrap yarn about 2 yards) HOOK: Size H; yarn needle to weave in ends. GAUGE: None required... TERMS USED: Sts - Stitches CH - chain SS - Slip Stitch DC - Double Crochet HDC - Half Double Crochet SC - Single Crochet CS - Cross Stitch (skip 1 space, 1DC in next 2 spaces, 1DC in the skipped stitch to create cross) FS - Fringe stitch (1SC, 1HDC, 3DC, 1HDC, 1SC) in same space.
Pattern:
This purse is made by creating the body in rows, joining the front and the back and making two rounds and then creating the flap in Cross Stitch pattern. At the end, use yarn needle or hook to whip stitch the sides. Create purse HANDLE by CH65 and attach to sides at the end. 1. ROW 1: Chainless Foundation DC 31. Or CH 34 and DC in 4th stitch from hook and DC across. CH3 and turn. 2. ROWS 2-16: skip first stitch and DC across. CH3 and turn. (31 sts) 3. ROW 17: skip first stitch and DC across. CH1 and turn (31 sts) 4. ROW/ROUND 18: 1 SC in each stitch across. Fold the bottom part of the purse over (to create the body) and SS into the first CH from ROW 1. Continue with 1SC in each stitch of the bottom of ROW 1 sts. SS with the CH1 from ROW 17. This creates a round that connects the back and front of the purse. 5.ROW/ROUND 19: 1SC in each stitch around (skip the SS stitches used in previous round). (62 sts) 6. ROW 20: CH3. In front loops ONLY, 1DC in the next 31 sts. Turn. (32 sts) 7. ROW 21: CH3. \*\*Skip one stitch, 1DC in the next 2 sts. Cross over and 1DC in the skipped stitch\*\* (First CS made). Repeat from \*\* to \*\* to make CS across the row and 1DC in last stitch. Turn. (9 CS and 2 DC total in each row). 8. ROW 22: CH1, 1SC across. 9. ROWS 23-25: Repeat ROWS 21 and 22, ending with the ROW 21 pattern. 10. ROW 26: \*CH3, skip 2 stitches, 1SC\*. Repeat across to create loops for fringe. Turn. CH1. 11. ROW 27: FS in each loop. Fasten off. (9 fringes). 12. Create a button from scrap_ yarn by creating Magic Loop and 6SC in ring, 6SC in next round, decreasing 2 each in next round with 3SC and binding off and attaching to the DC post directly under the 5th fringe of ROW 27. Or else, use any small decorative button to finish off. 13. Sew up the sides of the purse and attach handle. VOILA!
