Materials:
One 100g skein (\~220 yards) light weight (DK) yarn. Size 5 knitting needles (circular or straight). Larger knitting needles (\~ size 6) for cast on only. Two stitch markers.
Abbreviations:

Hand needle. M1 = make 1 stitch by inserting the left needle from behind under the strand between the last st worked and the next st and lift this thread onto the left needle, then knit one stitch into the back of this stitch. You have now added a stitch pm = place marker
Rib Pattern:
Gauge: 4.5 st per inch (when stretched) Pattern: Rows 1: (Right side) \*K2, P2\* repeat from \* across row, end K2 Rows 2-8: K the knit sts and P the purl sts Row 9: \*RT, P2; repeat from \* across row, end K2 Repeat Rows 2-9 for the pattern.
Directions:
Cast on 42 sts loosely with larger needle. Change to size 5 needle. Work in pattern stitch until piece measures 7 '. Berry Meadow Gauntlets
Thumb shaping:
Row 1: (Right Side) Keeping in pattern stitch, work 4 sts, M1, pm, work 34 sts, pm, M1, work 4 Ssts. Row 2: Work in pattern stitch, working added sts into pattern. Keep pattern between markers consistent with what was previously worked on this section (work Ks above Ks and Ps above Ps). Row 3: Keeping in pattern, work to marker, M1, slip marker, work to next marker, sl marker, M1, work to end of row working added sts into pattern. Row 4: Repeat row 2. Reneat rows 3 and 4 three times more (voui will have 9 sts hefore the first marker )
Finish thumb:
Work to marker keeping in pattern, remove marker and slip next 34 sts (Hand portion) onto a stitch holder, remove marker, work last 9 sts keeping in pattern. Work these 18 sts in pattern, for a total of 8 rows (\~1"). Bind off.
Hand portion:
Transfer sts from stitch holder onto knitting needle. Starting on Right side, work across in pattern increasing 1 st at beginning and end of this row (you now have 36 sts). Continue to work across in pattern, working each end as K3 or P3 to accommodate the added sts, for a total of 12 rows [\~ 2" ] Bind off all sts in pattern. Make second gauntlet in the same manner.
Finishing:
Weave in loose ends. Sew seam along outside of thumb through length of gauntlet. Sew seam along inside of hand.
