March Block
Mommy and Me Block of the Month KAL The March block is a block knit using the bias knitting technique; that is, we are going to knit it diagonally. It's a very easy block, done in garter stitch, but I do encourage you to make it a little more challenging and add in some stripes. I've done mine in one color to show the shaping easier, but feel free to experiment. One of my favorite ways to include stripes is explained below.

Materials:
Worsted Weight yarn, 1 or more colors Size 7 needles, or size to get gauge Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
K-Knit ST - stitch K2tog - Knit 2 sts together SSK - Slip 2 sts as if to k one at a time, insert left needle into those 2 sts on right needle from left to right under the front leg of the sts, and wrap yarn around right needle and pullthrough to knit the 2 slipped sts together Sk2togpsso - Slip 1 st, K2tog, pass the slipped st over the k2tog st (double decrease - turns 3 sts into on) CO - Cast on BO - Bind off
Pattern:
CO 1 st. K, Yo, K all into 1 st (3sts) - To do this, K the first st but do not remove from left needle, YO, then k again into the first st and remove from left needle. Kacross K, YO, K, YO, K Kacross Row 1: K1, YO, K to last st, YO, K1 Row2:K across Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the right and left sides (sides not on the needle) measure 12 inches. Row 1: K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 Row 2: K across Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 5 sts left K1, Sk2togpsso, K1 (3 sts left) K3tog BO. To add stripes, simply change colors as you want. The stripes will go diagonally across the square. One particular striping sequence you can use is the Fibonacci sequence. To use this one, you change the number of rows in each color in a specific order, created by adding the last two numbers of rows together. For my example, I'll use 2 colors (CA and CB), but you can use as many as you want. The basic way to do this is as follows: CA 1 row, CB 1 row, CA 2 rows (1+1), CB 3 rows (2+1), CA 5 rows (3+2), CB 8 rows (5+3), etc. For more information and other ways this sequence can be used, check out this website: http://www.suite101.com/content/fibonacci-knitting-and-crochet-a108867
