My new favorite for Knit Night: easy to memorize 4 row pattern, uses only one color at a time, grows quickly on midsize needles, no seams and no ends to weave in because we hides them in the tassels! Heaven.

Not to mention that I want to marry this baby alpaca/silk/ cashmere blend. we'll float luminous strands of silk over clouds of cashmere I'm a loose knitter, so I used a 3. If you're a very tight knitter, you might go up to an even larger needle. We're using very big needles relative to yarn thickness because we're asking some of these stitches to span three rows!

from kama suutra fiber arts Yarn managment: we'll be knitting with one color at a time, but we'll use both ends of the alpaca, so we need to have center\~pull yarn cakes. Begin by making yarn cakes. Place them side by side with the silk on the left and the alpaca on the right. make sure the center yarn comes out from underneath the yarn cake, or is tucked inside the underneath. Not on top! Tie the outside strand of the silk to the outside strand of the alpaca, a slip knot using both strands that can be removed later. This will look like 2 stitches on the needle, and they don't count in the stitch count, because we'll drop them later.
NOTE these differences from the video:
1 . \*\*\*do Not cut the yarn at end of the cast on\*\*\*, we're goingto use it! 2. In the video, she's tying 2 ends of the same skein, while we're tying the outside strands of 2 different skeins. You may now linky.

Got it? Now you can cast on a nearly infinite number of stitches with no fear of running out. Don't quite get it? Look up the Knit\~Along in the Kama Suutra Yarn Lovers Ravelry Group and figure it out with help. CO 92 stitches. If you held the silk in front, you'll have a durable silk edge, and the stitches on the needle will be the delicate alpaca. The cast on for the DK weight version is 76. Set up: Turn your work and drop the alpaca strand. Using \*ONLY\* the shiny silk, K all the way back to the beginnning, where you left 2 tails, stopping with 2 stitches left unworked as yet. Reinforced Edge: Pick up the alpaca tail, leaving the silk tail alone. Tie the other end of the alpaca (from the inside of the yarn cake, and on the bottom to prevent tangling) to the tail, and using both the alpaca tail and the shiny silk held together, knit into the front and back of the very last stitch. (kf&b) increasing the stitch count to93. Do THIS From Now On For the First 2 and Last 2 stitches of every row. Turn your work, and slip the first (2 strand) stitch purlwise, then K or P the next st with 2 strands. Whut? Since we're working with delicate yarns in a loose gauge, we'll use 2 strands in the first 2 and the last 2 stitches of every row to create a thicker, stronger edge. Plus it's gorgeous. After the 2 stitches, simply drop the extra strand, and continue in pattern with the appropriate yarn. When you get to the other edge, you'll find another strand waiting for you, pick it up and knit or purl the last 2 stitches with both strands. For clarity: K the right side, P the wrong side so the edge is stockinette smooth. Selvedge ~ Because the cast on and cast off edges will sit at the wrist, it's especially important to have a neat, elegant edge. We'll counter with a classic selvedge of slipped stitches. Work the 2Reinforced Edge Stitches, and then begin with an anticurl selvedge designed for showing off, and not catching on, bracelets. How To "Float 1 Over 2"
To the Left: Ready when the silk slip st is next on the needle. With the tip of the right needle, reach behind the fabric into the alpaca stitch \*after\* the silk slip st., and K that st, and then K the next st as well, then reach around to the front and K the silk slip st, and \*now\* let all 3 slide off the left hand needle. You'll K1 stitch and then do this again, all the way across the row. 4 st. repeat. To the Right: Ready when you have 2 alpaca st before the slipped silk st on the needle. Gently grasp the bottom of all 3 stitches, and slip them off the needle, just barely! Then slip the left hand needle back into the alpaca stitches, and pick up and K the silk slip st. with the tip of the right hand needle. K the 2 alpaca stitches, then K1 more. 4 st. repeat. copyright 2016 Sarada Shanti \~ Kama Suutra Fiber Arts \~ all rights reserved page 5 Continue in pattern until you have 5o" of fabric on the needle or 12g of silk remaining. Then Knit 8 rows of Selvedge in the same manner as at the beginning, and cast off using the silk.
dOn't SKIp The tassels!
Save 10grams/44yds of silk
You can add in some coordinating yarn from your stash to fill out your tassels, but you're really going to want to save about 10g of the silk and at least an equal amount of the alpaca. Ifound I had a bit more alpaca left over than silk, and that worked out well once I added afewstashyarns I love tassels, don't you? Start by smoothly winding the leftover alpaca, silk, and something perfect from your stash into a thicker yarn. Figure around 11 yds per tassel. I use a leather book to wrap my tassels, extra yarn to wrap and tie them, and heavy scissors to trim the ends neat at the end. BLOCK YOUR STOLE! This project needs to be blocked within an inch of it's life! Once it's dry, sew the tassels onto the 4 corners, slip it onto your shoulders, sigh with happiness, and send me pictures! <3 \~ Rue Not confident in your tassel making? Come to the KAL thread in Kama Suutra Yarn Lovers Group on Ravelry, Ill post some pics and advice, and we'll find a good video tutorial to link ;)
