Shameless Demne Copy-CAP
A zigzaggyknits design

Annie Cholewa (\*knitsofacto") has written and made freely available on Ravelry a lovely baby cardigan called Demne. I knit a Demne and wanted to gift it along with a coordinating hat. Here's a hat pattern that incorporates some of the Demne design elements: Yarn: Approximately 68 yards of any DK yarn that yields gauge. Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows to 4 inches in stockinette stitch. Needle: US 6 (4 mm) (or size to meet gauge). Notions: Button.
Abbreviations:
K -- Knit Sts - Stitches K2tog -- Knit 2 together P -Purl Yo - Yarnover
Pattern stitches:
Seed Stitch (on straight needles with an odd number of stitches): Every row: (K1, P1) to last stitch, K1. Roman Stitch (in the round with an even number of stitches): Rows 1, 2, 3 & 4: K to end. Row 5: (K1, P1) to end. Row 6: (P1, K1) to end.
BRIM:
Cast on 81 sts. Seed Stitch 8 rows, but at the beginning of row 5, make buttonhole: K1, P1, K1, yo, K2tog, continue seed stitch to end of row. In row 9, bind off 8 sts in purl (or in Demne bind-off), and using dpns K to end (this is 1st row of Roman Stitch pattern) and join in round by knitting last stitch of row 9 together with first stitch of row 10. (72 sts) CAP: Complete rows 2 through 6 of Roman Stitch pattern. Repeat Roman Stitch pattern 5 more times (so there's a total of 6 pattern repeats). CROWN: Decrease rows as follows: Row 1: (K2tog, K4) to end (60 sts) Row 2: (K2tog, K3) to end (48 sts) Row 3: (K2tog, K2) to end (36 sts) Row 4: (K2tog, K1) to end (24 sts) Row 5: (K2tog) to end (12 sts) Row 6: (K2tog) to end (6 sts) rarn, weave through remaining 6 stitches and secure. Weave ends. Sew buttc
