MATERIALS
MC Mountain Meadow Wool, Wyoming Series, Laramie, Mountain Merino Worsted [1oo% wool; 196 yards/ 3. 5 oz]; color: Prairie; 2 skeins [www.mountainmeadowwool.com] CC Lorna's Laces, Shepherd Worsted [100% superwash merino wool; 225 yards/ 4 oz]; color: Robot Overlord; 1 skein US #5/3.75mm needles Notions: tapestry needle GAUGE 22sts/29rows = 4"in patt ern st In this design I was interested in how traveling stitch patterns can naturally create a decorative edge on a scarf. I was also trying to find ways to use pricier skins in partnership with less expensive yarns to creae a pleasing, more affordable design. Here you can substitute your own favorite hand paints or speciality skeins into this pattern and get the visual impact of more expensive yarns without needing to make the whole garment in one yarn. Or splurge! The spinners will love you! This scarf can be made wider to suit you by simply casting on more stitches in the garter stitch section. Blow it up!
PATTERN NOTES
At the beginning of each row slip all first MC sts as if to purl, knit all first CC sts. This will create an attractive chain selvedge on the MC edge and a garter stitch selvedge on the CC edge. Use best intarsia knitting practices when switching colors. Pick up the yarn to be switched to from under the yarn you are switching from. PATTERN CO 36 sts

Work the first 18 rows in pattern on all 36 sts with MC once. Introduce CC on the 21" st on row 19. Work in pattern as established switching from MC to CC until piece measures approximately 2.5 inches from desired length. Work rows 19-36 once more with MC only. This creates the top and bottom border in MC. In other words: 1" pattern repeat: Rows 1-18 MC on all 36 sts Rows 19-36 odd rows: MC on sts 1-20,CC on sts 21-36 even rows: CC on sts 1-16, MC on sts 17-36 2"d pattern repeat to the last repeat Rows 1-36 odd rows: MC on sts 1-20,CC on sts 21-36 even rows: CC on sts 1-16, MC on sts 17-36 Last pattern repeat: Rows 1-18 odd rows: MC on sts 1-20,CC on sts 21-36 even rows: CC on sts 1-16, MC on sts 17-36 Rows 19-36 MC on all 36 sts Bind off in pattern.
