I had a thought. I wear cotton gloves for my dry hands sometimes at night with lotions. why not have a pair of socks for this? Normal socks drive me nuts at night but toes free is great..and cutting the toes off socks is just not for me. These were designed for wear after a nice long foot pampering eve complete with pedicure. These are designed for 'kitchen' type cotton yarn. Some of the stitches (and lack of tightness) in this sock is with with this kind of yarn in mind!! I used a single Super Sized ball of Beach Ball Blue Lily Sugar and Cream yarn. I'd maybe 3-4 yards left.
Needed:
At least 150 yards of a kitchen cotton yarn in colors you like If you choose to use two balls (safer that way) try using a solid color on the heels for a nice look. US 7 DPNs or whatever. NOTE: I wear a 9-9 1/2 US sized woman's shoe. Men's I'm an US 8. To re-size simply lengthen or shorten the body of the sock as needed. People with tiny feet may want to cast on 36 instead of 40... big feet may want 44. Note, I haven't been able to test this. Let me know how this works! Stitches- sts or st K2tog/P2tog - knit or purl two sts together. YO- Yarn Over \*-repeat
The sock:
CO 40 loosely. Knit one row. Second row begin $2\mathbf{x}2$ ribbing. Do this for 3 rows. Knit all stitches for the next three rows for a total of 6 rows. The heel is really simple. Slide 18 stitches onto one needle (for all sizes of foot). This is your heel; if using two colors, strand in the second color now. Knit all stitches for 22 rows. This is cotton that needs the extra stretch in this area. To turn heel end on right side row. (If using two colors, switch back to main color) P10, p2tog, P1 and turn. Slip $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ stitch, K4, k2tog. K1 and turn. You'll have 6 unworked stitches on each side. Continue in this manner till all are worked. Pick up 12 sts on each side of the heel, use the outside stitch leg. Arrange the heel stitches in half so that 6 are added to each 12 that are picked up so 18 sts each are on two needles and 22 (18, 26) are on the instep. Work gusset by knitting one row and then decreasing the next row. Thus: Row A Knit all Row B Knit till 3 sts are left on left gusset needle, knit all stitches on instep needle, knit 1 st on right gusset needle, ssk and knit rest of stitches on needle. Repeat till 42 (40, 46) total sts left. Next row K3 then (YO, K2tog,\*) till last 3 sts of row. Knit them. (Here is where you'd add length or loose it as needed Longer sock $=$ More yarn) Knit ten rows OR till tried on sock end is at ball of the big toe. That row find the gusset line column (where the decreases line up then follow it out). Knit to it. K2tog. Knit to left side gusset column and ssk, knit rest. (for me the gusset column was 7 sts from row start and 8 sts from row end) You will now have the same number of sts you cast on. Knit three rows. Do ten rows of $2\mathbf{x}2$ ribbing. Bind off. Optional: I wear mine in bed while sleeping and the toes slide up. I simply took a piece of the leftover yarn and looped it through two bind-off sts to rest between my big toe and other toes (like a flip-flop cord) Wa-La! Spa Night Socks to do for your feet what gloves do for the hands!
