Rice Stitch Spa Set
By Gayle Pounds Includes a Back Scrubber and washcloth. Add a bottle of scented bath gel and it makes a very nice gift. Chart included after back scrubber pattern.
Materials:
1-2 skeins 100% cotton worsted weight yarn such as Sugar N Cream US Size 7 needles, either straights or circulars US Size7 double pointed needles - 2 each, if preferred for I-cord (you can use circulars if you prefer) Yarn needle or crochet hook to weave in the ends

Back Scrubber:
I-cord: Using double-pointed needles, CO 3 sts leaving a long tail for weaving in later; knit 3-stitch I-cord for 8": \*Knit 1 row (3 stitches), slide the 3 stitches to the opposite end of the needle, do not turn. Pull yarn tight behind the 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches again. At the end of each row, slide stitches to the other end of the needle, pull yarn tight for first stitch of each row. Repeat from \* for desired length - for this project, 8". Using Cable Cast On\* cast on 22 additional stitches for a total of 25 stitches on your needles. \*It's the strongest cast on and especially good for cotton items that will be wet. This border stitch has almost no stretch which makes it perfect for this project. Cotton yarn is prone to sag and stretch out of shape when wet so this helps prevent that. Knit 6 border rows as follows: 1. Slip 1 knitwise, \*knit 1, with yarn in front slip 1 purlwise; repeat from \*, knit 2 2. Slip 1 purlwise, \*with yarn in back slip 1 purlwise, purl 1; rep from \* to end of row.

Knitting instructions inside brackets [] repeated the number of times specified after instructions inside the brackets. etween border on each side, slipping the 1st and last stitch of the Rice Stitch: 7. Beginning with side border, slip the 1st stitch knit-wise, then [knit 1, slip stitch knit-wise with yarn in front] 2 times, slip 1 stitch knit-wise with yarn in back, \*kb1 (knit through the back loop), p1; repeat from \* to 6 stitches before end, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, then [slip stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1] 2 times, knit 1. 8. Slip the 1st stitch purl-wise, [slip stitch purl-wise with yarn in back, purl 1], 2 times, purl slipped stitch, knit to 6 stitches before end of row, purl slipped stitch, [purl 1, slip stitch purl-wise with yarn in back] 2 times, purl 1. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 20 to 30", depending on the size of the person you are knitting it for. Knit 6 rows border as for 1st 6 rows (see chart below). After Row 6, bind off to last 3 stitches, then knit 3-stitch I-cord for 8". Bind Off leaving a long tail for attaching to opposite side of back scrubber. Attach each I-cord to the opposite side of the back scrubber on each end and weave ends in making sure the I-cord is securely attached on each end of the back scrubber.
