Cittle Acorns Sweater
This sweater is knit side to side. The yoke & sleeve shaping is done with short rows. The weight of your yarn will determine the size. DK weight yarn makes a sweater for a six month old, at a gauge of 11sts per 2", on a 4mm needle. Fingering weight makes a sweater for a newborn, at a gauge of 13sts per 2", on a 3.5mm needle Worsted weight makes a sweater for a 1 year old, at a gauge of 9st per 2", on a 4.5mm needle. Use the needles you require to obtain gauge!
Unusual abbreviations:
YM = Yoke Marker. SlpYM = Slip Yoke Marker. YF = bring yarn to the front of your work. Slpw = slip he following number of sts purlways. kbf = knit into back of next stitch leave stitch on needle and knit into front of thesame stitch. SSPtbl = slip 2 sts purl ways, purl these together through back loop. WYE = Work Yoke Edge (4st I-cord edging on the yoke) IMPORTANT! There are short rows, at the lower edge of the yoke and at the top of the yoke (the neck edge) at the I-cord. Every time you see WYE (work yoke edge) you need to ether, bring your yarn forward and slip 4sts purlways or turn your work and leave 4sts unworked. This will depend on what you did on the previous row. If you cast on 26sts and work the 16rows of the sleeve as your gauge swatch you will see how this works. The short rows are written out stitch for stitch in the sleeve pattern. This was impossible in the main body pattern due to the number of rows in the lace pattern.
Left front:
Pick up 46sts
Knit a 4stitch I-cord for 48 rows. You will be picking up your starting stitches down the side of this I-cord Skip 2rows, pick up and knit 46sts down the side of the I-cord, (be careful not to twist the I-cord as you pick up the stitches) hould have 50sts on your needle 4sts from the top of your l-cord plus 46sts from the side of your l-cord. Knit down the side
Button band & 4stitch I-cord edging:
(you should be above the tail on your I-cord) \*Row 1- Knit up to last 4sts, turn, and leave 4sts unworked. Row 2- Knit to end of row. Row 3- Knit up to last 4sts, bring yarn forward as if to purl, Slpw 4sts, turn. Row 4- Knit 4sts you slipped in previous row, knit to end of row.\* These 4 rows \* to \* create the 4stitch I-cord edging on the Yoke Continue in the same manner at the yoke edge throughout the sweater. Repeat from \* to \* once more. Repeat row 1 Last row before lace pattern. K11, place a marker at Yoke (YM), knit to end.
You are now ready to work the main body of the sweater.
