
THE ONE SKEIN KIMONO

GAUGE&SIZING
19 sts = 4"; 30 rows = 4" stockinette. Sample is knit using the one ply Uruguayan Merino (\~220 yds.) from Mosaic Moon (http://mosaicmoon.com). I used just under 1 skein. This sweater is sized to fit a newborn. The chest measures 18", the length is 9", the sleeves are 5" long. THE PATTERN BACK Cast on 46 stitches. Row 1: Purl all stitches. Row 2: Knit all stitches. Row 3: Knit all stitches. Row 4: Purl all stitches. Repeat rows 3 and 4 to continue in st. st for 9". Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT
Cast on 36 stitches. Row 1: Purl all stitches. Row 2: Knit all stitches. Row 3: Knit all stitches. Row 4: Purl all stitches. Repeat rows 3 and 4 to continue in st. st for 5" ending with a RS row. 63. K7 P1 K2tog K1 P1 K1 P1 Repeat from \* until 14 st. remain. Continue in st. st. until piece measures 9". Bind off. LEFT FRONT Cast on 36 stitches. Row 1: Purl all stitches. Row 2: Knit all stitches. Row 3: Knit all stitches. Row 4: Purl all stitches. Repeat rows 3 and 4 to continue in st. st for 5" ending with a WS row. \*Knit to within 3 st. of end. K2tog, k1. Turn work. P1, p2tog, purl to end. Repeat from \* until 14 st. remain. Continue in st. st. until piece measures 9".Bind off. SLEEVES Cast on 28 sts. Row 1: Purl all stitches. Row 2: Knit all stitches. Row 3: Knit all stitches. Row 4: Purl all stitches. Inc 1 st each side on next row, and on every 6th row 5 times total (10 stitches increased). 38 st. Continue in st. st. until sleeve is 6". Make 2. FINISHING Seam garment. On RS, pick up stitches starting from right front from where the st. st begins (skipping the 2 purl rows), around back, down left front to end ofstst. Purl one row around, picking up additional stitch at the bottom purl edge of the right front. NOTE, increase one stitch at each "bend" in the kimono fronts by picking up 2 stitchesintothecornerstitch. Turn work. Knit around. NOTE, increase one stitch at each "bend" in the kimono fronts by kf&b into the corner stitch. K2tog at each shoulder seam to decrease 2 stitches in the neck opening Pick up additional stitch at the bottom purl edge of the right front and knit it.

CLOSURE
This kimono can close on the left or right side. You may choose to close the garment with a button and a crochet or i-cord loop attached behind the purl ridge trim. Or you can pick up and knit small (\~3") i-cord ties. Be sure to add your closure of choice to the inside as well!
