Cozy Cabled Boot Cuffs

A quick-to-knit, cozy pair of boot cuffs that can be worn inside out and folded over the edge of a boot, or simply over the leg, peeking out of the top of the boot. Needles: size 10 and 11 DPNs (or 16" circulars for large size) Gauge: 3 sts/inch on size 11 needles Sizes: 13(15,19) inch cuff circumference/ All sizes are 5.5 inches in length Yarn: Plymouth DeAire Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande Hand Dye: 1 hank for the basic version in all sizes (no pattern repeats) Or your favorite thicker bulky yarn: 75(90,110) yards CBL6 Back: slip 3 stitches on to a cable needle and hold in back of work while knitting the next 3 stitches. Then, slip the stitches from the cable needle back onto the needle to be worked, and knit them. Be careful not to twist the slipped stitches! (This method is used rather than knitting directly from the cable needle because of the very large needle size- it helps prevent obvious gauge disparity)
Pattern:
Using smaller DPNS, cast on 40(48,56) stitches, distribute evenly across 3 needles and join for working in the round. (You may have to rearrange stitches later so that the cables are not split apart) Work in \*p2,k2\* rib for 5 rounds, or about an inch Change to larger DPNs and work as follows: Rounds 1-3: \*p2,k6\* Round 4: \*p2, CBL6 back\* Rounds 5-11: \*p2, k6\* Round 12: \*p2, CBL6 back\* You may repeat rounds 4-12 until garment is the desired length (each pattern repeat is about 1.5 inches long) Rounds 13-15: \*p2, k6\* Switch back to smaller DPNS and Work in \*p2,k2\* ribbing for 5 rounds, or about another inch. Bind off loosely, or by using a stretchy bind off. Draw the tail from the last bound off stitch through the first bound off stitch, to help close the gap at the end of the work. Draw the tail from the first cast on stitch through the last cast on stitch to help close the gap at the beginning of the work. Weave in ends and enjoy!
