Listen to your favorite tunes while keeping your head and ears toasty. This earflap hat with a faux-shearling lining has a hidden surprise—headphones that are knit in! Now there's no need to worry about losing your earbuds while on the slopes or be concerned about adjusting them as you run around town. Just put the hat on, plug in to your MP3 player, and you're ready to go! The hat knits up quickly in a soft, chunky cashmere-blend yarn, with an even softer faux shearling lining on the earflaps. You can buy inexpensive headphones that work with most MP3 players at an electronics store or on ebay.

Hat
Place 1 MC earflap and 1 CC earflap back on their needles. Hold earflaps with wrong sides together and MC earflap towards you. Using MC, place right-hand needle through first st of MC earflap and first st of CC earflap. Knit these 2 sts at the same time, combining the 2 sts into 1. Repeat for remaining sts. Turn work around. Using cable cast on, CO 16 (18) sts. Place remaining 2 earflaps back on their needles and knit across as for first set of earflaps. Turn work around again and using cable cast on, CO 22 (24) sts—80 (88) sts total. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker and work K2P2 rib for 6 rounds. Finishing
Remove any foam covering from headphones and, if possible, any extra non-essential pieces of plastic (ear clips can usually be jiggled off or broken off). With right side facing and CC, start at ribbing and work single crochet through both layers of the earflap. At the bottom of the triangle stop and insert headphone so that speaker side faces inward. Position the cord so that it hangs out of the ear flap at the triangle point. Finish crocheting earflaps together. Repeat for other side. Weave ends. Add a pom pom, if desired.
