Directions
A Note on Sizing There are two charts provided for the leg and foot of this sock. If you wear a small, you should use Chart I with a gauge of 9 stitcheslinch. If you wear a large, you should use Chart 2 with a gauge of 8 stitcheslinch. If you wear a medium, you may either use Chart I with a gauge of 8 stitcheslinch or Chart 2 with a gauge of 9 stitcheslinch. The sample was knit with Chart 2 at 9 stitcheslinch. The sample shown was knit using Chart 2 and a gauge of 9 stitcheslinch. Each size includes negative ease. Cast on 60 (66) stitches loosely.
Cuff:
All rows: \*k 2(4), [pl, kl] six times, pl, k 2(3), pl, [kl, pl] six times, repeat once more from \*. Work ribbing pattern until piece measures I.5"/3.8 cm.
Leg:
Round I (and all odd numbered rounds): \*k 2 (4), pl, k 26 (27), pl, repeat once more from \*. Begin working Leg Chart. Continue in Leg Chart until leg measures 6"/15 cm or desired length, ending with an even round (4 repeats of Leg Chart).
Heel Flap:
Turn work and begin working flat over the 28 (29) stitchesbetween cables.
Chart I:
Row I: sll, p 27 Row 2: \*sll, kl, repeat from \* across. Repeat these two rows I3 times more, 28 heel flap rowstotal.
Chart 2:
Row I: sll, p2tog, p 26 Row 2: \*sll, kl, repeat from \* across. Row 3: sll, p27 Row 4: \*sll, kl, repeat from \* across. Repeat rows 3 and 4 13 times more, 30 heel flap rowstotal.
Heel turn:
Row I: sll, p I4, p2tog, pl, turn. Row 2: sll, k3, ssk, kl, turn. Row 3: sll, p4, p2tog, pl, turn Repeat rows 2 and 3, increasing one stitch knit or purled each time, until all stitches have been used— I5 stitches remain.
Gusset:
Begin working in the round. sll, k across heel turn stitches, pick up I5(17) stitches along the heel flap. Work setup row for foot chart as follows: pm, kfb, k I(3), pl, k 26(27), pl, k I(3), kfb, pm then continue picking up gusset stitches by picking up an additional 15(17) stitches along heel flap. Chart I: k6, k2tog. Chart 2: k8. pm for beginning of round—78(88) stitches Close gap: k 20(22), ssk, work foot chart over next 34 (39) stitches, k2tog, k 27(23) - 76(86) stitchesDecrease Round I: k to last three st before marker, k2tog, kl, sm, work foot chart over next 34(39) stitches, sm, kl, ssk, k to end Decrease Round 2: k to marker, sm, pl, k2(4), pl, k26(27), pl, k2(4), pl, sm, k to end. Repeat Decrease Rounds I and 2 until 60 (66) stitches remain.
Foot:
Round I: k to marker, sm, work foot chart over next 34(39) stitches, sm, k to end. Round 2: kto marker, sm, pl, k2(4), pl, k26(27), pl, k2(4), pl, sm, k to end. Repeat these tworoundsuntil footmeasures to the base of the big toe or approximately 2" less than desired length, ending on row 6 or I2 of the foot chart. If additional length is necessary, knit every stitch for 2-3 rows before beginning the toe.
Toe:
Setup: K to beginning of foot chart. K 2(3), PM— beginning of round 1. K 30(33), PM, k to end. You will have divided the cable stitches evenly between the sole and instep. Round I: kl, ssk, k to three stitches before marker, k2tog, kl, SM, kl, ssk, k to three stitches before marker, k2tog, kl—4 stitches decreased Round 2: K around Repeat rounds I and 2 until 28 (34) stitches remain, then repeat round I only until 16 (l8) stitches remain.
