Genesiz Crescent shaped Lace shawlette By PamJemelian @ WingshadowWraps

Inthe beginning, God created the heavens and the earth...and He planted a garden in Eden, and He put the man inthe garden, and He caused every treeto grow that was pleasingto look at and goodto eat. Andthe Tree of Life was in the midst ofthis garden. This account from the Bible in Genesis 2 iz what my Genesiz Crescent shaped Lace shawlette way inspired by.Thiz shawlette iz knit in one piece fromthetop down in stockinette stitch with yarn over increases that form 3 wedgez as it expandztowardz the border. It iz officialy a semicircular shape, but forms a crescent as you knit it because the ends beginto curve inwards, and it iz over 6 feet endto end. The center panel forms a lace "branch" panel representing the Tree of Life, and the shawlette finishes in a leafy border which is knit on after the body ofthe shawl using the "applied border" technique. I chose to-knit it in 2 % skeins (220 yards each skein) of Cascade'sDK weight ultra Pima Paints 100 Percent Pima Cotton intheir beautiful variegated Mosy Mix shadeto further my gardentheme. I include complete row counts for the body ofthe shawlette in the pattern even though you are simply working from place marker to place marker with the exception of a small center panel of lace (chart included). Genesiz made inthiz yarn iz machine washable, delicate cycle & repinflat to dry. It iz lightweight, stunning, and a great way to get backto your rooty.

Materials:
Slightly under 2 skeins (220 yards each skein) of Cascade Ultra Pima Paints 100 Percent Pima Cotton in Denim. This yarn is DK weight, so you could substitute another multi-hued DK yarn if you want. U.S. Size 4, 29" long circular needles Darning needle for burying yarn. 2 Place Markers
Gauge:
Not important, but you want the knitted stitches to be loose enough to show the yarn overs in the lace, while not so loose as to be too "leggy"...simply knit a few rows of the lace in the center panel or the border and see if you like the way the lace is looking, and, if not, adjust the size of the needles up ordownaccordingly. You will need 2 markers The 2 blue borders mark the 3 edging stitches on each side of the shawlette. The red border marks the center wedge stitches. The 2 areas of stitches that are not bordered are the side wedges. You have 2 side wedges, 1 center wedge, and also the border stitches. The side wedge sections (not bordered in chart) have increases on every row, but the center wedge (red border) only has increases every other row (right side). If you take a look at the chart, you will see this means that you increase 4 stitches every time you work a right side row, and only 2 stitches on thewrong side rows.
Instructions
Cast on 9 stitches ideally with the Garter Stitch Tab Method since this method makes a seamless transition in the border stitches between the 3 wedges along the top, but an ordinary cast on of 9 stitches is also acceptable since this is a more advanced technique. If you would like to see a good video tutorial on how to cast on by using the Garter Stitch Tab Method, here is a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fTSJzlM3g8 Row 1 (RS): K3, [yo, k1] rep 2 more times, yo, k3 Row 2: K3, yo, p7, yo, k3. How to Keep The Right Count Going-Checking Your Count
Remember to check with each new row to see that it has increased the proper number of stitches from row to row. If you have just worked a right side, odd row, you should have increased 4 stitches (with 4 yo's) over the previous wrong side, even row. lf you have just worked a wrong side, even row, you should have increased only 2 stitches (with 2 yo's) over the previous right side, odd row. Another way to check is to only check the wrong side rows, because after each wrong side row, you should have the same number of stitches in the central wedge as you do in each of the side wedges. \*\*You willbe working the Complete Row Count and switching over to the Genesis Center Wedge Branches Lace Section for the center wedge of the shawl only, and only on the odd rows (RS). The 2 side sections stay the same all throughout the bodywork of the shawlette.

Genesis Leaf Lace "Applied" or "Knitted On" Border Pattern You are now going to begin the cast off/bind off by using the Applied Edging Technique. If you are not familiar with this method, here is a good video tutorial on how to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ca3u6Jqw-w The video demonstrates making the border in a simple garter stitch although for this pattern it will be using the Leaf Lace pattern instead of the one that is demonstrated Cast On the 7 stitches for the Genesis Leaf Lace Border using the Knitted Cast On Method in front of the 243 stitches already on your needles. If you aren't familiar with this technique, here is a link: http://www.knitpicks.com/tutorials/Knitted Cast On D5.html

Row 13: K1, ssk, k3, k2tog, p2, [p2, k1] twice, k1. Row 14: K4, p1, k3, kfb, p6. Row 15: K1, ssk, k1, k2tog, p3, [p2, k1] twice, k1. Row 16: K4, p1, k4, kfb, p4. Row 17: S2tog-k2tog-p2sso, bo 5 sts, p1, k1, p2, k2. Row 18: K4, p1, k2.

Repeat these 18 rows all the way across until all the 243 original stitches have been bound off and you have only the border stitches remaining. Bind Off last row and bury all threads. Make sure you finish the few extra rows leftover after you have bound off all the stitches so you have a complete leaf at both ends of the border (this should only be a few rows of the 1s). Wet block with rust-proof t-pins and air dry flat for 24 hours. Make sure you pin the "veins' of the leaf lace border so the slant towards the right to get good leaf definition.
