Gauge
In mesh stitch (dc in space between dcs of previous round), about 7 dc = 2 inches wide; about 4.5 rows = 2 inches tall.
Abbreviations used
ch - chain dc - double crochet sc - single crochet sl - slip stitch st - stitch
Special stitch used
Mesh stitch: This is similar to a standard dc, except instead of working subsequent rounds in the top of the previous sts, work round in the space BETWEEN the posts of the dcs of the previous round. This

method pushes the stitches further apart and results in a mesh-like effect. (In the above photo, the upper portion of the CozyToterm is worked in mesh stitch, whereas the lowest few rounds are worked instandard dc.)
Materials list
Crochet hook US size I (5.5 mm). Worsted weight cotton yarn: 1 skein (50 g). Samples were made using Lily Sugar 'n Cream. Scissors. Yarn needle.
Notes
Has this ever happened to you: You're dashing off to work, lugging your purse, your lunch, your briefcase, perhaps other odds and ends, and then ALsO trying to carry your favorite beverage without spilling it? Well, that description fit me until I decided to lend myself a helping hand and designed the CozyTotetm Beverage Carrier. Now I can carry a full (covered) container of my favorite drink just about anywhere, spill-free. All it takes to carry your CozyTotetm and keep it upright is one finger. The CozyToterM makes it easy to carry a beverage with you anywhere you walk - while shopping, hiking, etc. This quick-and-easy pattern is designed to fit a popular coffeehouse chain's venti size double-walled reusable container with straw, but it will work well with any approximately 9-inch tall covered cup that is about 3.75 inches in diameter at its widest point. When made using an absorbent cotton yarn, the CozyToterm also serves as a built-in coaster, absorbing condensation from your cup before the moisture reaches your tabletop.
Instructions
CozyToterm is worked in the round starting at the bottom. Join as instructed at the end of each round, but do NoT turn your work. Work subsequent rounds in the same direction as the first round.
Round 1
Ch 3. Work 11 dc in third chain from hook. (First ch 2 does NOT count as first dc here and throughout.) Join round with sl at top of 1st dc. (11 dc made.)
Round 2
Ch 2 (remember: ch 2 does NOT count as 1st dc). Work 2 dc at base of ch 2. Work 2 dc in each stitch around. Join round with sl at top of 1st dc.(22 dc made.)
Round 3
Ch 2. Work 2 dc at base of ch 2. Work 1 dc in next st. Work \*(2 dc in next st; 1 dc in next st). Repeat from \* around. Join round with sl at top of 1st dc. (33 dc made.)
Round 4
Ch 2. Work 1 dc in BACK LOOP ONLY at base of ch 2. Work 1 dc in BACK LOOP ONLY of each st around. Join round with sl at top of 1st dc. (33 dc made.) Working in the back loops only for this round will provide a sharper corner at the bottom edge of your CozyTotetm as you begin to work up the sides in Round 5.

CozyTotem after first three rounds (about 3.5 inches diameter).

CozyTote'm after Round 5. See how the side turns up sharply?
Rounds 5 -8
Ch 2. Work 1 dc at base of ch 2. Work 1 dc in each st around. Join round with sl at top of 1st dc. (33 dc made.)
Rounds 9 - 19
Now you will work all remaining rounds using the mesh stitch. Ch 2. Work 1 dc in the space below the base of ch 2. Work 1 dc in the space between each st around. Join round with sl at top of 1st dc. (33 dc made.) Be sure to count your stitches so you aren't increasing!
Round 20
This is the final round, where you will add an edging in mesh-style sc as well as the CozyToterm handle. Ch 1. Work 1 sc in the space below the base of ch 1. Work 1 sc in the space between each st around. Join round with sl in 1st sc. (33 sc made.) Ch 50. Skip next 16 st. Attach handle chain with sl. Sc in next st, then turn and work 1 sc in each ch of handle (this brings you back across the handle chain). You will work about 50 sc across the handle, depending on which ch you start working in. (if you only end up with 48 or 49 sc total for your handle, it's Ok!) Join with a sc atbase of handle. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Now you can neatly and conveniently carry your beverage everywhere with confidence and ease. Step out into the world and enjoy your new CozyTotetm!
