Angel Booties
Soft as a cloud, these sweet little socks can be knit in a single afternoon. Size: 6-12 months Materials: size #5 double pointed needles, 1 skein Lorna's Angel angora yarn (50 yards), tapestry needle Gauge: 5.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch Abbreviations: k: knit p: purl sl: slip as if to purl p2tog: purl two stitches together ssk: slip two stitches, one at a time, as if to knit, then knit them together k2tog: knit two stitches together sts: stitches Cuff: Cast on 28 stitches, divide onto 3 needles with 14 on the first, 7on the second and 7 on the third. Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Knit 1 inch in $\mathrm{k}2\,\mathrm{p}2$ ribbing. Heel Flap: Row 1: sl 1, k 13 Row 2: sl 1, p 13 Repeat row 1 and 2 five times each. Repeat Row 1 once more.
Heel Turn:
Row l: sl 1 p 8, p2tog, pl, turn Row 2: sl 1, k 5, ssk, k1, turn Row 3: sl 1, p 6, p2tog, pl, turn Row 4: sl 1, k 7, ssk, k1, turn
Gusset:
Setup round: With heel needle, pick up 6 stitches along the side of the gusset and one in the corner at the edge of the instep. With instep needle, knit across instep in $\mathrm{k}2\,\mathrm{p}2$ ribbing. With a free needle, pick up one stitch in the corner of the instep and 6 stitches along the heel flap, knit 5 heel stitches onto this needle. Round 1: Knit to last 3 stitches on the first needle, k2tog, k1. Knit in pattern across second needle. On third needle, k1, ssk, knit to end. Round 2: Knit across needle 1, knit in pattern across needle 2, knit across needle 3. Repeat rounds one and two until there are 7 stitches on each of needles 1 and 3 with 14 remaining on needle 2 (instep). Foot: Knit across needle 1, knit in pattern across needle 2, knit across needle 3. Continue in this manner until foot is 1" less than desired length.
Toe:
Round 1: Knit to last 3 stitches on first needle, k2tog, k1. K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches of second needle, k2tog, k1. On third needle, k1, ssk, knit to end. Round 2: Knit across all needles. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 three times then repeat round 1 twice more. Knit two stitches from needle 1 onto needle 3. Kitchener remaining stitches and weave in ends.
