With white yarn and Us 7 seven needles, cast on 30 stitches. Divide onto three or four needles, join, and work 16 rows of k1 p1 ribbing in the round. BODY, RIGHT HAND MITTEN Round 1: Switch to US 8 needles and work one round in Stockinette Stitch, making 3 stitches, spaced evenly around. (33 sts total) Round 2: k20, place marker, m1 right, k1, m1 left, place marker, k12 Round 3: Knit all stitches Round 4: work Chart A as indicated, slip marker, with white, m1 right, knit all stitches between markers, m1 left,slip marker, work Chart B as indicated (Be sure to check that you are reading all charts as indicated above the chart. Break yarn and use yarn needle to thread tail through the remaining six stitches. THUMB,BOTH MITTENS Transfer thumb gusset stitches from waste yarn to three size 8 needles as follows: Needle 1: Pick up the stitch you previously cast on to bridge the gap over the thumb gusset, and two stitches from the stitches on waste yarn on either side of it. Needle 2: 5 stitches Needle 3: 4 stitches Total Stitches: 14 Using white, knit 7 rounds. Decrease Round 1: (k2tog, k3) twice, k2tog, k2 Knitoneround Decrease Round 2: (k2tog, k2) twice, k2tog, k1 Knitoneround Decrease Round 3: (k2tog, k1) twice, k2tog Break yarn and use yarn needle to threat tail through remaining three stitches. Turn mitten inside-out and weave in all tails. Chart A: For right hand mitten, read chart right to left, top to bottom. For left hand mitten, read chart left to right, top to bottom. The thumb gusset will be next to the patterned side of this chart (not the all-white side) on both mittens. Chart B: For right hand mitten, read chart right to left, top to bottom. For left hand mitten, read chart left to right, top to bottom. The thumb gusset will be right next to the all-white column on this chart on both mittens.
