Circumference at brim: 17" / 43 cm. Circumference at widest point: 26 %2" / 67.5 cm. Intended to fit adult heads 20-23"/ 51-58.5 cm in circumference, worn with negative ease at ribbed band and 3-6"/ 7.5-15 cm of positive ease around body ofhat.

1 skein Beyond Basic Knits Worsted Woolies (270 yds / 246 m per 3 34 0z / 105 g skein; 100% Superwash Merino Wool) in Sea Grass.
needles:
Size 5 US / 3.75 mm circular needle, 16" / 40 cm long. Size 7 Us / 4.5 mm circular needle, 16"/ 40 cm long. Size 7 Us / 4.5 mm set of 4 double pointed needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

gauge:
19 %4 sts and 29 rows = 4" / 10 cm in lace pattern on larger needles. 20 sts and 28 rows = 4" /10 cm in Stockinette Stitch on larger needles. To save time and to ensure accurate sizing, check gauge. NOTE This hat is worked from the bottom up, beginning with a ribbed brim. After knitting the brim stitches are increased and the needle size is changed before beginning the charted lace pattern.
BRIM
Using long tail method and smaller circular needle, cast on 84 sts. Place marker to indicate beginning of round and join, being careful not to twist. Row 1: \* K1, pl; repeat from \* to end of round. Repeat this round 11 times more (12 rounds total of 1xl rib). Next round—Increase round: \* K1, kfb; repeat from \* to end of round (42 sts increased; 126 sts on needle).
BODY
Switch to larger circular needle and begin working from the Chart. Repeat the Chart pattern 7 times around the hat. Switch to dpns when you can no longer work comfortably on one circular needle. At completion of the Chart, 21 sts remain. Next round: Ssk 10 times, k1. (11 sts rem) Next round: Ssk 4 times, sssk. (5 sts rem) Break yarn.
FINISHING
Thread end through remaining sts and fasten off. Weave in ends. Block hat into beret shape by spraying with water until damp and letting dry, stretched over a dinner plate.
