Divide to Work Body & Sleeve Separately

\*\*Warning: If you do not wish to work on 4 dp needles please knit the sleeve sts first and put the body sts on holder. See \*\* below.

No Sew Method

Body

Knit 26 [28, 29] sts for left front (you will be knitting to the center of the raglan seam), cast on 4 [4, 6] sts, slip next 28 [32, 34] sleeve sts to a holder or length of scrap yarn, knit 44 [48, 50] back sts, cast on 4 [4, 6] sts, slip next 28 [32, 34] sleeve sts to a holder, knit 26 [28, 29] right front sts. You should now have sleeves on holders and 104 [112, 120] body sts on your needle. Knit in garter st. until work measures 4.7" [5.2", 5.7"] from armhole. Cast of using stretchy cast off. (lllustrated instructions below)

Sleeves

Using your set of 4 or 5 dp needles slip the sts for one sleeve onto the needles (divided), pick up and knit 6 [4, 4] sts. in the cast on for the underarm. 34 [36, 38] sts on needles. Divide evenly and mark the center of underarm for end of round. Working in rounds continue in garter st. (k 1 row, P 1 row this time as we are working circular) until sleeve measures 6" [6.5", 7"] or desired length from underarm. Optional: For the cinched cuff only, as blue jacket; decrease 4 [6, 8] sts evenly over last row. Cast off, not stretchy as we want this to cinch in a bit.

Finishing

Just sew in your loose yarn ends and add button :-)

StraightNeedleSleeves (alternate "no double point needles" method)

\*\*(If knitting sleeves on straight needles only put body sts on holder and work each sleeve separately casting on 2 [2, 3] sts at beginning of the first 2 rows then proceeding in garter st until sleeve measures 6" [6.5", 7"] or desired length and sew seam. Knit body sts as above only pick up the underarm sts that you just cast on when you made the sleeve, instead of casting on)

Stretchy Cast Off

1) Knit 1 2)Knit 1 (2 sts on right needle) 3) slip both sts back to the left needle then 4) knit them together through back of the loops. Repeat steps 2-4 to end. Once you get used to this you can combine steps 3 & 4 into one movement.

DESIGNER BIO

Hi, I'm Nancy Elizabeth Munroe. Nancy Elizabeth Designs is a small family owned business that I have created to keep me busy in my retirement. I work out of our Century Farmhouse in Prince Edward "The County", a small island community on the Canadian Shore of Lake Ontario. My primary goal is to share my passion for maintaining excellence, quality, beauty and joy in the process and practice of fiber art. I want to honor the human skills involved, keep them from becoming a dying art and acknowledge the rich heritage, the diversity and multicultural history of handcrafted textiles. I try to stay mindful when sourcing my materials, thoughtfully choosing sustainable, natural and renewable resources. I love the notion of slowing down in order to have quality rather than quantity in life. The idea is that fashion should be less dependent on rapidly changing trends and colors (fast money for the rich) and more about quality, sustainability, and thoughtfulness in design and materials. The things we create we should make with care and there should be an expectation that they will have meaning to us. Herein lies great Joy in the creative process. My passion is discovering and playing with exotic natural fibers, lately Breed Specific and Rare Breed Wools, and finding creative ways to bring out the best qualities in each fiber or blend. I am also passionate about being friendly toward our Earth. I actually hug trees, buy organic and eat \*real\* food and want the things I make for you to be as Organic, Eco-Friendly and Natural as possible. I've been practicing fibre arts for many years. I learned to knit pretty soon after I learned to walk and talk. It was probably a few years before the passion really grabbed me but I can remember sitting beside the old "Victrola" phonograph (seriously - yes we played our 78s on the "Victrola") listening to Elvis at about 8 years old while knitting myself a sweater with yarn ripped out an old project given to me by my auntie. This was what I did while the other kids went outside to play hop-scotch. We used to have an old suitcase where my Mother kept her knitting patterns, tools and yarns. I can still remember the way it smelled, the excitement of anticipation as I opened the old books to search for my next project. This line of patterns are my semi-retirement project. I've developed them in response to your requests. The Designs are Simple Elegance, Classic and Timeless. My goal is a design that you will enjoy knitting, a design that will look terrific now and for years and even generations, and a design that will always be in fashion. I have wanted to write out my designs as patterns for a very long time and I'm pretty excited that the time has finally come. I have worked hard to make this pattern as comprehensive as possible while still remaining simple and concise. If you find any errors or have questions or difficulties, or even suggestions, please contact me. I love to hear from my fellow fiber artisans. The Story

This little sweater design has been my go-to project whenever I have needed a baby sweater since the 70's. My children all had several versions, as did most of my foster children and now my grandchildren have each had one or two. The actual pattern has evolved over the years and was always just in my head so I thought it was time to write it down. Here it is, as simple and practical as I could make it and it's still as cute as can be.
