End of Summer Cape

By Carol Price for Sorlenna's Studio

I named this one "End of Summer" for its color and leaf-like shape, as it reminds me of the dark green of the leaves as they begin to turn, developing flecks of red, gold, and pale green. This cape is also good for those cool fall days when just a little extra warmth comes in handy! Finished size (blocked) : Materials: > Size 8 circular needle, 29" or longer >Approximately 810 yards Sport weight yarn (if worked with one strand) or 810 yards each fingering weight and lace weight yarn (work with one strand of each held together); model worked using one strand Palette Verdant Heather [100% Peruvian wool, 4 skeins] and one strand Shimmer Bayou [70% Baby Alpaca/30% Silk, 2 skeins], both from Knit Picks > 6 stitch markers > Double pointed needles for i-cord or button for closure Gauge: 18 sts and 20 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch (unblocked) NOTEs: The section setup and scalloped edging instructions are written with reference to sections marked off by stitch markers; they are essential for working this pattern, since stitch count changes with each row.
