"54

"'33" knit with Super Bulky in Grape (L); "42" knit with Chunky in Plum (R) & "54" knit with Worsted in Emerald (front)
Materials Needed
Yarns: 105 yards of worsted wt yarn. (Or 1/2 a ball of Malabrigo!) Sample was knit with Malabrigo Worsted in Emerald. (it's not your monitor- my Malabrigo had a tonal-stripey thing going on) Other great yarns include Cascade 220, Patons Classic Wool Merino or what ever you have in your stash. Needles: Size 8 (5.0 mm) 16 in. circular needles or same size double point needles (dpn's) or size needed to obtain gauge. 9 stitch markers. 1 cable needle. Gauge: on 8's: 5.5 sts/inch & 7 rounds/inch in pattern- unstretched- see note below Finished size: 15 in. circumference and 7.5 in. tall. right off the needles-unblocked-but it stretches easily to 24." Special note: Starting the decreases right alter round 36 creates a finished hat about 6.25" tall which fits a child. Here are the modifications to "33" for Worsted Wt yarn. "54" is a simple cable hat that can be knit in a few evenings. It is extremely soft and warm and will stretch to fit a variety of heads. Instructions for child's hat are included.
