You are free to share photos of your adventure · Please, no spoiler photos as your front project photo until after the MKAL is over. Use the pattern teaser images or your yarn choices. Sign up thread is here. Size: Clue 3 is repeatable until you are happy or yarn runs out! Gauge: Item will need to be somewhat drapey, but a tighter gauge or larger yarn & needles is okay so long as your work is flexible. You will just get a cozier item. If you use finer hooks/needles or finer yarn, you will get a more delicate item. Knit gauge: 14 stitches x 20 rows = 4 inches/10 cm square in stockinette stitch Crochet gauge: 16 stitches x 9 rows in double crochet (treble for UK)= 4 inches/10 cm square
Materials:
- 3 colours of at least 109 yards each DK yarn or other weight that works with your hook or needles. I used 3 skeins Mirasol Llama Una, 100% llama, 109 yards/50 grams, in Gull, Gold, and Forest. Crochet item will be somewhat smaller than knitted item if you use the same yardage - 5.5 mm/us 9 circular or long needles to accommodate many stitches OR - 5.0 mm hook for DK weight. I used a 4.5 mm hook with sport-weight yarn, and a 5.5 mm with worsted weight in Knit Picks Swish Worsted, 110 yards/ 50 grams.
Clue 1 (both versions):
When I made this, I had a 2 yards per yarn left over. Luckily, I made tassels before starting, and so shall we. Tassels add an elegant bohemian look to the piece. We are making three 6 in/15.25 cm tassels and seting them aside until Clue 4, Peak. If you have never made tassels, there's a photo tutorial here. You will need: - a 6 in/15 cm wide notebook or other surface -scissors - your chosen yarns - a place to store the tassels- I used a ziploc baggie at the bottom of my project bag
Making the tassels:
Each tassel has 3 strands of each colour. If you are using two colours or one, instructions for those are written in parentheses, for example: Each tassel will have 3 (2, 1) colours in it. 1) Using your thumb or forefinger, clasp one end of the yarn just past the base of the notebook.

2) Wind the yarn around the notebook 9 (18, 27) times. Avoid criss-crossing the yarn or winding it different distances, or the tassel lengths will be different.

3) Cut across the bottom, on the same side that the yarn winding began, where your finger is. Ignore the llama yarn that's caught onto my fingers.

4) Sort into tassels by making 3 piles of 3 (6, 9) strands each

5) Repeat for each colour you have, placing the next set with the previous set. I tied scrap yarn around the center of each tassel to keep it together, then placed them in a ziploc baggie which I placed in my project bag.
