Materials:
300 yards of worsted wool yarn, 100 yards in each of the following colors: C1 - bright green C2 - muted green C3 - beige
5 stitch markers
Needles
Cable needle US size 9 (6.5 mm) or size needed to achieve the correct gauge, 29 in long (74 cm).
Gauge
14 sts x 24 rows = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm) in feather and fan pattern stitch
Feather and fan pattern
Pattern is based on 18 sts over 4 rows. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: \*k2tog 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, k2tog 3 times\*, rep from \* to \* to the end. Row 4: Knit. Repeat those four rows for pattern.
Directions
Worked bottom-up back and forth on cable needle. With C1 cast on 110 sts with the cable needle. READ THE WHOLE PARAGRAPH FIRST. On the next row (RS) start working in feather and fan pattern with two edge sts. Place a marker at the end of each pattern rep (total of 6 pattern rep). This will help you keep track of your sts should a mistake happen. Row 1: k1, K18, \*PM, k18 \*, repeat from \* to \* the last st, k1 Row 2: K1, p18, \*sm, p18\*, repeat from \* to \* the last st, k1 Row 3: K1, \*k2tog 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, k2tog 3 times\*, rep from \* to \* to the last st, k1. Row 4: Knit Rep those 4 rows for 6 times (6 pattern repeats = 4 % in/11 cm). Switch to C2 and work for total of 6 pattern rep (9 in/23 cm). Switch to C3 and work for total of 6 pattern rep (13 % in/34 cm).
Finishing
Sew the sides together with mattress stitch. Weave in the ends. Block lightly. Wear with pride! The cowl is stretchy enough to be worn as a shoulder wrap too.
