Yarn: approximately $3~\mathrm{oz}$ , super bulky (something like LB Wool-Ease Thick and Quick can be used, or alternately, a super bulky thick and thin ya lkJoAn'sSensationsLioriccanbeused forextratextue, or tree different olred strans of your favorite worsted weight yarn can be knit together for an interesting effect.) Gauge: 2.5 - 3 stitches per inch Needles: size 11 (8mm) $16"$ circular needles. CO 64 sts. Place marker and join in the round, being careful not to twist. Main headband: R1-2: $\mathrm{^{*}K4}$ , P2, K8, $\mathbf{P}2^{*}$ repeat R 3: $\mathrm{*K4}$ , P2, C4F, C4B, $\mathrm{P}2^{*}$ repeat R4-6: $\mathrm{*K4}$ , P2, K8, $\mathbf{P}2^{*}$ repeat R 7: \*K4, P2, C4F, C4B, $\mathrm{P}2^{*}$ repeat R 8 - 10: $\mathrm{*K4}$ , P2, K8, $\mathrm{P}2^{*}$ repeat R 11: $\mathrm{*K4}$ , P2, C4F, C4B, $\mathbf{P}2^{*}$ repeat R 12: \*K4, P2, K8, $\mathrm{P}2^{*}$ repeat

(Sample knit with LB Wool-Ease Thick and Quick) R 13: SSK, K11, K2tog, BO 22, slip the next stitch as if to knit, insert the left hand needle into the slipped stitch and th stitch left over from binding off and knit them together, K11, K2tog, BO 12 (the last BO stitch will be passing over the first stitch of the first earflap) Earflaps: R1: $\operatorname{SSK^{*}}$ , k until 2 from end, K2tog \*(for the first row of the first ear flap ONLY: the stitch left over from binding off will be on the right hand needle--slip the next stitch as if to knit, insert the left hand needle into the slipped stitch and the stitch left over from binding off and knit them together) Repeat these two rows until 3 sts remain. BO, leaving a 10 inch tail. Repeat for the second earflap.
For each earflap:
Cut 4 lengths of yarn, approximately 20 inches long each. Thread the lengths through the end of earflap so that the two10 inch ends hang down. Combine the yarn with tail and braid, then knot and leave a 1 inch fringe at the end. If desired, a fleece lining may be sewn on for extra softness and warmth. C4F: slip the first two stitches onto a cable needle and hold them in front of the work, knit the next to stitches, then knit the held stitches. C4B: slip the first two stitches onto a cable needle and hold them in back of the work, knit the next to stitches, and then knit the held stitches. SSK:sli-sli-knit: s thfirst stitch as if tkit, sp the sod stith as if tkit, inert thft han ndent tht slipped stitches and knit them together.
