Red Sparkle Lady's Hat in Pique Rib

Hat Circumference: to fit a lady with the head circumference of 21"-23" Hat Depth: 8"
Materials:
\* 1/2 ball of Hobby Lobby "I Love This Yarn"100% acrylic in Red Sparkle or any other medium worsted yarn #4 (10ply) to obtain the gauge \* U.S. #8 (5 mm) circular needles (16" long) \* a set of 4 or 5 U.S. #8 double-pointed needles ( to shape the top) \* a tapestry needle \* a marker \* a large shiny button (optional) Gauge: 4.5 sts per 1" in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
Cast on 84 sts. Place a marker and join in circle making sure not to twist sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing pattern for \~1.5" slipping marker at the beg of everyround. Knit next round and evenly increase 6 sts as follows: \*k14, m1; rep from \* to end of round. (90 sts) Cont work in Pique Rib stitch as described below and remember to slip the marker at the beg of every round: (Multiple of 10 sts) Rounds 1, 2 and 3: \* p3, k1, p3, k3; rep from \* to end of round. Round 4: purl all sts. Rep rounds 1-4 four more times. Then knit every round until hat measures 5.5" from the cast on row. Begin decreases for the crown as described below. Remember to slip the marker at the beg of every round and switch to double-pointed needles whennecessary: Round 1: \* k8, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 2 and all even rounds: knit all sts. Round 3: \* k7, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 5: \* k6, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 7: \* k5, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 9: \* k4, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 11: \* k3, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 13: \* k2, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Round 15: \* k1, k2tog; rep from \* to end of round. Cut yarn, leaving a 8"-10" long tail. With a tapestry needle, pull the tail through remaining sts and secure. Hide loose ends. Optional: attach the button to the hat as desired.
