Needles:
Size US5/3.75mm double-pointed needles Size US2/2.75mm strait needles Cable needle
Gauge:
Gauge is unimportant for this project
Other Materials:
Yarn needle 2 small buttons per owl (for eyes) Gold embroidery thread Small amounts of stuffing Bendable wire A few feathers Fishing line 2 small tree branches with lots of twigs An‘S'hook Optional: any owl/forest related beads
Pattern:

Owl (make as many as desired): Using Owl Color and larger needles, cast on 16 stitches, divide over double-points and join in the round. Round 1: (K1, p1) 8 times. Knit 2 rounds. Round 4: C4b, c4f, k8. Knit 7 rounds. Round 12: C4b, c4f, k8. Knit 4 rounds. Round 17: K8, bind off 8. Now you have 8 stitches and one left on the needle you were using during the bind off. Keep this stitch and pass it over the first stitch you knit in Round 18. Round 18: C4b, c4f. Turn work and bind off all stitches knitwise. Sew the head closed along the bind-off edges. From the bottom, stuff firmly and then sew the bottom closed. Using the gold embroidery thread, sew on eyes and embroider the owl's beak. Now make branches for the owls to sit on. Experiment with how many owls you put on a branch together and how long to make the branches. Also, if you want to make a few baby owls, just work the same Owl pattern with fingerling yarn and size US2/2.75mm needles.
Branch:
Using Brown and larger needles, cast on 4 stitches and work as I-cord for as long as desired. (One owl and one leaf takes up approximately 2 inches. Stick a piece of bendable wire inside the I-cord; k4tog. Using gold embroidery thread, sew the owl to the branch, making your stitches look like the owl's talons.
Leaf:
Using Green and smaller needles, cast on 4 stitches. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: K2, m1, k2. -5 stitches. Row 4: Purl. Row 5: K2, yo, k1, yo, k2. -7 stitches. Row 6: Purl. Row 7: K3, yo, k1, yo, k3. -9 stitches. Row 8: Purl. Row 9: Ssk, k until last 2 stitches, k2tog. Repeat rows 8 and 9 until only 3 stitches remain; p3tog. Sew a leaf or two to each branch.
Assembly:
Tie the two branches together with fishing line to make an X shape. Hang the owls and feathers and/or beads from different points on the X, and the twigs coming off of the branches that make the X. Now, using more fishing line, hang the entire mobile from your 'S' hook. This can now be hung from anything and the mobile is complete!
