Socks are knit top down with heel flap and a wider toe. Pattern as written will yield socks for US size 6-8 (Women's size small/medium) feet. Adjust needle size to increase size of sock. Irish mesh pattern has a limited amount of stretch. Blocking finished socks will help fit Materials 150g Sock yarn 2' of flat, no twist elastic Set of 5 DPN, 9" circular needle (optional) - US Size2 Tapestry Needle Circular needles are recommended due to starting needles with YO and shifting stitch counts. If using circular needle, switch to DPN for foot. Gauge Irish Mesh - 24 sts x 42 rows = 3"
Pattern
CO 85 sts using provisional cast-on, C0 3 sts using long tailed or backwards loop cast-on. 88 sts total. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist.
Cuff

Work in K2P2 rib for 12 rounds Purl 1 round Work in K2P2 rib for 12 rounds Folding at the purl row, carefully unravel the provisionally cast on stitches. K the round with the CO stitches together with the live stitches to form the casing for elastic, K3 remaining sts. Work Chart for decreases
Calf decreases will be done in two parts: 2 stitch decrease done on row 1 of pattern (6 decrease rows - 12 sts decreased), 2 stitch decrease done on both row 1 AND row 3 (12 decrease rows - 24 sts decreased) The decreases will be in the beginning and end of each round (K2tog, SSK). Being able to read your knitting will be very useful. You will YO in between the 2 knit sts with the PSSO bar. Similarly, you will sl1 the stitch before the YO, K the YO stitch, and K1 stitch after the YO, and pass the slipped stitch over. Work even in pattern over remaining 60 stitches for 2.25" (9 pattern repeats) or until sock is 2.5" from desired length ending with row 4
Heel Flap
K15 sts on to 1 DPN, turn, purl 30 stitches Work these 30 stitches for heel flap \*Sl1, k1\*, repeat from \* to \* across Sl1, purl across Repeat last 2 rows 17 times - 18 slipped stitches on each side
Turn Heel
Row 1: sl 1, K16, SSK, K1, turn Row 2: sl1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn Row 3: sl1, knit to one stitch before the gap created by the turn on the previous row, SSK to close gap, K1, turn Row 4: sl1, purl to one stitch before the gap created by the turn on the previous row, P2tog to close gap, P1, turn Repeat last 2 rows until all heel stitches have been worked - 18 stitches remaining
Gusset
K9, PM for beginning of round, K9, Pick up and Knit 18 slipped heel stitches from flap, PM, work in pattern (Row 1, starting with K2) across top of foot, PM, Pick up and Knit 18 slipped heel stitches from flap, K to end of round On each knit round for the pattern (Rows 2 and 4), Kto 2 sts before patterned instep sts, K2tog, slip marker, K across instep stitches, slip marker, SSK, K to end of round Work as established until 60 sts (30 for instep, 30 for sole) remain Continue in pattern, until foot measures 2" from desired length
Toe
All sts will now be Stockinette stitch. Row 1: Knit to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, slip marker, SSK, K to 2 stitches before next marker, K2tog, slip marker, SSK, K to end of row Row 2: K all sts Repeat last 2 rows until 24 sts remain (12 sts for instep, 12 sts for sole)
Finishing
Kitchener stitch remaining stitches together. Insert elastic into knit casing. Weave in ends. Block sock as needed.
