Follywood Capelet Knitting Pattern: Garter Stitch and Antique Lace Shawl Design by Ailsa Daly

FOLLYWOOD BYAILSA DALY

Pattern illustration

This small capelet style shawl is knit in garter stitch from the centre back neck down to the lace panels, then changes to a stocking stitch background and a gentle antiquey ornate looking lace edge which has patterning on both sides. If youhaveknit theShantaram Sock, you may notice a similarity between the two lace patterns. They are essentially the same, but this one has no purl stitches and is patterned on both sides, and all thedecreasesareallinthe the same direction. You knit 2 together on the right side and purl 2 togetheronthewrongsideat all decrease points. If you haven't knit lace on both sides before, this is a great pattern to memorise because it only has a four row repeat, and is very intuitive.

General Sizing Notes:

The blue shawl is knit with knitabulous Fifty Fifty on a 2.5mm needle and used only 70grams. The tension is quite tight, each repeat of the lace pattern is 7 cm across. The shawl is 40 cm deep. The crimson shawl is knit with a 4ply Optim yarn (unbranded, hand dyed) with a 3.00mm needle. The tension is loose, each repeat of the lace pattern is 10cm across. This shawl is 55cm deep. Both shawls used less than 100g of yarn, the blue shawl only used 70g of the Fifty Fifty, so if you want a deeper shawl, then go right ahead and keep knitting the border, or the garter section a few times more for a wider shawl. The important thing to remember is that the stitch count should be divisible by 20 with a few stitches at either end. You can fudge the stitch count a little if you need 1 or 2 more stitches to achieve the desired number. I hope you love your capelet!
