Jayne Cobb Inspired Knitting Pattern for Firefly Fans: Hat Applique with Earflaps and Pompom Tutorial

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn Color A (Red) Worsted weight yarn - Color B (Orange) Worst weigh yarn - Color C (Yellow) Size 5 (3.75mm) knitting needles Large eye needle

DIRECTIONS:

With orange yarn, c/o 8 stitches. Row 1: Knit across. Row 2: Purl across. Row 3: Knit across. Row 4: Purl across. Cut orange yarn leaving a 6" tail to attach hat later. Row 5: With yellow yarn, knit across. Row 6: Purl across. Row 7: SSK, k4, k2tog. (6) Row 8: Purl across. Row 9: SSK, k2, k2tog. (4) Row 10: Purl across. Row 11: Knit cast off. Leave a 6' tail, pull through last stitch. ABBREVIATIONS: c/o = cast on k =knit p =purl Stockinette = alternate knit 1 row, purl 1 row

Earflaps (make 2):

With red yarn, c/o 2. Stockinette for6 rows. Cast off leaving a 6" tail to sew to hat. Thread tail through last stitch. Attach an earflap to each side of the bottom orange hat edge.

Pompom:

With red yarn, c/o 7. Knit across loosely. Slip each stitch over your first stitch, one at a time. Cut yarn leaving a 6" tail. Thread through remaining stitch on needle and pull tight to form a ball. Attach to the top yellow portion of hat applique.
