Make it Wild Fringed Scarf 2 versions (straight or diagonal sides) Pattern by: Colette Smith Pattern # 605 This is a great project for stash yarns of similar colors in a range of weights and textures. Make it wild by using lots of different yarns (ribbon, faux fur, chunky, mohair, hand-paint, etc). The fringed sides are made using overhand knots leaving 6 inch tails with each exchange so there are no ends to back-weave. Extra fringe can be added at the end if you desire a fuller look. For very thick yarns, do just 1 row. For very thin yarns, work 2 or 3 strands together and work multiple rows. The entire scarf is knit in garter stitch so it is easy pattern but looks elegant and complicated. Finished size: any size you desire just add more or less to the cast on to make it wider or narrower, as shown 5 inches wide by 60 inches long. Needles: size 10 1/2 style of your choice (if using very chunky yarns use 11 or 13 sized needles) Version #1, straight sides with fringe CO 20, size 10 1/2 needles Knit 1-3 rows of each type of yarn Change yarns often. Repeat rows until desired length. Bind off. Add extra fringe if desired in open areas along the sides. No fringe on bind off or cast on edges. Version #2, diagonal sides with fringe CO 20, size 10 1/2 needles Row 1 (RS): k1, inc, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1 Row 2 (WS): k repeat rows 1 & 2. It is helpful on this design to place a locking stitch marker on the uphill edge as a reminder which side is increased. The unmarked side is the decrease edge. Bind off. Add extra fringe if desired to fill in open areas along the sides. No fringe on bind off or cast on edges. Extra fringe: Cut pieces 13 inches. Fold the yarn in half and use a crochet hook to pull the loop through side stitch. Pull the loop yarn ends through the loopto secure. Abbreviations: K: knit P: purl RS: right side WS: wrong side (back of work) inc: increase by knitting through front and back of the stitch k2tog: knit 2 stitches together Washing Instructions: spot wash with mild soapy water and dry flat.
