Materials: 1 ball Cascade Fixation (dk/8 ply 98% Cotton/2% elastic - 100 yards/50 gms) Size 9 16" circular needle Size 5 double-pointed needles Yarnneedle Stitch Glossary: K: knit P: purl K2tog: knit 2 together yo: yarnover Gauge: 6 sts = 1" in pattern (before wash/dry) Measurements before wash/dry Width: 7" (14" circumference - but will stretch) Length: 6 3/4" Measurements after wash/dry Width: 6 1/2" (13" circumference - but will stretch) Length: 5 1/2' Cast on 84 stitches on circular needle, join being careful not to twist. Garter edge: Purl 1 row, Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row. Begin feather & fan pattern. You may wish to place markers every 12 stitches to keep track of your lace row. Include a bigger/different stitch marker for beginning of row. Feather & Fan Pattern (can easily adjust size of hat - pattern is multiple of 12) Rows 1, 2, 4) Knit Row 3) \*(K2tog) 2x, (k1,yo) 4x, (k2tog) 2x\* repeat from asterisk. Repeat the feather & fan pattern for 11 repeats. On the 12"h repeat you will start shaping the crown on row 3: 1st decrease row: K2tog)2x, k1,yo,k1,yo,k2, (k2tog)2x (70 stitches remain) Knit 3 rows plain. 2d decrease row:\*(k2tog)2x, k2, (k2tog)2x\* repeat from asterisk. 42 stitches - change to size 5 double-points. Knit 3 rows plain. w: \*(k2tog) x3\* repeat from asterisk removing markers. 21 stitches tote 4th decrease row: \*(k2tog) x3\* repeat from asterisk. 11 stitches total. Knit 1 row plain. 5th decrease row: k1, (k2tog)5x. 6 stitches total. I-cord tie: Knit two sets of 3 stitch i-cords for 2". Option: instead of I-cord tie, simply cut off yarn with 6" yarn remaining & thread through remaining 6 stitches. Striped variation: Use two solid colors (or one solid and one variegated). Change colors after every four rows of the feather and fan pattern. Alternating a solid color with a variegated is great when your colorway is too wild to show the pattern.
