Tongariro Summer Jacket

The pattern is inspired by the Firmaments Lace Shawl from Bonnie Sennott

Body (Size L arge or 42 or 14):

Start on double pointed needles and change to cable needles when there are enough stitches on needles. Cast on 9 stitches and distribute them evenly over 3 needles. Join and knit 1. rnd. Second round is the first incorporating round: knit 2 stitches out of every one and double the number of stitches over the round $=18$ stitches. Rnd 3 - 6: Knit 3 rnds and incorporate in rnd 6 the same way $=36$ stitches Rnd 7 - 13: Knit 6 rnds and incorporate in rnd $13=72$ stitches Rnd 14 - 27: Knit 12 rnds and incorporate in rnd $27=144$ stitches Rnd 28 - 53: Knit 24 rnds and incorporate in rnd $53=288$ stitches Rnd 54 - 58: Knit 4 rnds Rnd 59 - 103: Start Sun Ray Pattern (Chart1) in Rnd 59. Knit 1-16 twice and 1-9 once. Knit 3 rnds. Rnd 104: Incorporate $=576$ stitches next 60 stitches on another stitch holder for second armhole and knit the whole round. Cast on 60 stitches, where the stitches are on holders in the next rnd and add them to the cable needles to have 576 stitches again. Knit 5 more rnds and then start the swallow tail pattern (Chart 2). Work pattern seven times. Rnd 176 - 203: Knit 10 rnds. Purl 4 rnds. Knit 4 rnds. Purl 4 rnds. Knit 2 rnds. Purl 2 rnds. Cast off.

Arms:

Take on the 60 stitches from one stitch holder and knit out of the cast on another 60 stitches. Knit 24 rnds. Decrease evenly on 4 places over the rnds 30 stitches to come down to 90 stitches remaining. Start swallow tail pattern (Chart 2) and repeat row 1-9 seven times. Knit one rnd. Decrease next rnd to 45 stitches with k2tog. Knit 10 rnds. Purl 4 rnds. Knit 4 rnds. Purl 4 rnds. Knit 2 rnds, purl 2 rnds. Cast off. Do the same for second arm.

Sun Ray Pattern (Chart 1):

Row 1: \*Ssk, k1, yo, ssk, ktbl, ${\mathrm{y}}0^{*}$ every beginning, move stitchmarker one to the right. Row 2 and all even rows: Knit (if in rounds, purl i in rows) Row 3: $^{*}\mathrm{K}2$ tog, yo, ktbl, yo, ssk, ktb\* Row 5: K1 and move marker one to the left over the whole rnd. \*yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, yo, s1-k2tog-psso\* Row 7: \*Ktbl, yo, k1, yo, ktbl, k1\* Row 8: Knit to last stitch before beginning marker, slit stith to right needl, remove marker, slit stitch back and place marker Row 9: \*Ssk, ktbl, yo, ssk, k1, yo\* Row 11: \*Yo, ssk, ktbl, k2tog, yo, ktbl\* Row 13: Same as Row 5 Row 15: $\mathrm{^{*}Y o}_{.}$ ktbl, k1, ktbl, yo, k1\* Row 16: Same as Row 8

Swallow Tail Pattern (Chart 2):

The pattern is a multiple of 18 stitches and 9 rows. Row 1: \*Yo, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl-k2tog-psso, yo, k1, ssk, k3, yo, sl-k2tog-pss\* Row 2 and all even rows: Knit and move stitch marker one left. Row3: $\mathrm{}^{\ast}\mathrm{K}4$ , yo, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, yo, k4, sl-k2tog-psso\* Row5: $^{*}\mathrm{K}3$ yo, k2, yo, k2tog, k1, ssk, yo, k2, yo, k3, sl-k2tog-psso\* Finish: Close all openings and weave ends in. Block it to the size of $110\,\mathrm{cm}$ width. Shoulder width is $58\,\mathrm{cm}$
