Pattern

Increase for first half of bow:

(WS) Row 1: Slip fIrst stitch pwise WYIF, purl to end. (RS) Row 2- Increase: Slip first stitch kwise WYIB, M1R, knit to 1 stitch from end, M1L. [5st. Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Increase row. [7st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Increase row. [9st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Increase row. [11st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Increase row. [13st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 5 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Increase row. [15st]

Headband:

Knit even without any increasing for 45 rows or for 12". NOTE: For a bigger or smaller size, measure around your head (including ears) in inches, where a headband would go around your head. Take that # and divide by half. This is the amount of inches you should knit this portion for. :)

Decrease for other half of bow:

(RS) Decrease: Slip first stitch kwise WYIB, SSK, knit to last 2 stitches from end, K2tog. [13st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 5 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Decrease row. [11st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Decrease row. [9st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Decrease row. [7st] Work in Stockinette (knit RS rows/Purl WS rows) for 3 rows. Ending on a WS row. Repeat Decrease row. [5st] (WS) Next row: Slip fIrst stitch pwise WYIF, purl to end. (RS) DO NOT SLIP FIRST STITCH. SSK, K1, K2tog. [3st] Bind Off: P2tog, slip next stitch pwise, psso. Break yarn. Weave in ends.

Tie Bow:

Measure 7" from both ends of headband. Tie bow at this point. You can secure bow with a couple stitches but I do not find this nessecary when knitted with a grabby wool/roving.

Finishing:

Blocking is not neccesary but if you lightly steam the headband, the width will unfurl a bit and give you a wider/flatter more scarf-like headband. I however, prefer the edges furled so that it “hugs" your ears. :)
