Linnea Signe: A Luxurious Alpaca and Merino Knit Pullover Sweater Pattern for Personal Use

by Gralina Frie Linnea Signe is a hip-hitting pullover with close-fitting sleeves and bodice, and a small rib detail around the edges. This design uses two completely different yarns combined to make a soft luxurious material. An irregularly spun fingering weight alpaca yarn and a DK merino and cotton blend create a sweater that be worn over any shirt, blouse, or tank. It will quickly become your go-to sweater when the weather cools down and you want something soft and warm. The pattern includes instructions for knitting the sweater flat or in the round, the choice is yours. Size: One size to fit size Xs - M, 34.5" - 38" (88 cm - 96.5 cm). Sweater is modeled on a bust sized 36" (92 cm). Yarn: BC garn Alpaca Flame 600 m (650 yd): in 02 light gray and Dale of Norway/Dalegarn Lerke 600 m (650 yd): in 5630 elephant gray. Knit with one strand ofeach yarn held together. Or the same amount - 600 m (650 yd) of any other of bulky yarn that will give you the right gauge. Needles: Us 8- 5.0 mm for the ribbing and 7.0 mm needles for the body, or size needed to obtain gauge, tapestry needle, two stitch markers. If you do not have a 7.0 mm, try to get gauge on a Us 10.5". Finished measurements: Circumference bust 88 cm/34.5" and length 52 cm/20.5". Sleeves measure 48 cm/19" from underarm. Gauge: 15 stitches to 10 cm/4" on 7.00 mm needles over stockinette stitch. Abbreviations: st(s)= stitch(es); k=knit; p=purl; k2tog= knit 2 stitches together; ssk=slip 1 kwise, slip 1 kwise, k2 slipped stitches together through back loop; m1= make one stitch; RS = right side; WS = wrong side Remember to leave long tails for sewing when you cast on and off.

BACK:

A) With Us 8 - 5.0 mm needles, cast on 68 sts and work 6 rows in 1x1 rib (k1, p1). Change to 7.0 mm needles and knit in stockinette stitch, until back measures 33 cm/13" from cast on edge. B) With Us 8 - 5.0 mm needles, cast on 132 sts, join sts without twisting and work 6 rounds in 1x1 rib (k1, p1). Place one marker for beginning of round, and a second marker after 66 sts. Change to 7.0 mm needles, and knit every round until body measures 33 cm/13" from cast on edge. Divide for front and back, sliding the last knitted 66 sts onto a stitch holder or a spare needle. Work each side separately. Shape armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off 1 st at beg of next 2 rows. Work even until piece measures 50 cm/19.75", ending with a WS row. Knit 16, bind off 20 sts for neck (do not leave on scrap yarn), knit 16 sts. Finish each side separately. Decrease for neck and shoulder simultaneously as follows: Neck: Bind off 1 st at beg of next 6 rows. Shoulder: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off 5 sts at beg of next row. Cut yarn. FRONT:

A)Work as back until piece measures 49 cm/19.25", ending with a RS row. A+B) Knit 17, slip 18 sts for the neck onto a stitch holder, slip remaining 17 sts onto a spare needle. Finish each side separately. Decrease for neck and shoulder simultaneously as follows: Neck: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next row. Bind off 1 st at beg of next 4 rows. Shoulder: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off 5 sts at beg of next row. Cut yarn. Finish the opposite side as above, but mirrored.

SLEEVES:

A) With Us 8 - 5.0 mm needles cast on 30 sts and work 2 rows in 1x1 rib (k1, p1). Change to 7.0 mm needles and work 18 rows in stockinette stitch = approx. 10 cm/4" from cast on edge. Increase 1 st on each side placing increases one stitch in from side as follows: k1, m1, knit until 1 stitch left, m1, k1. Repeat increase row every 8th row 7 more times = 46 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 47 cm/18.5" from cast on edge, ending with a RS row. B) With US 8 - 5.0 mm needles, cast on 28 sts, join sts without twisting and work 2 rounds in 1x1 rib (k1, p1). Place one marker for beginning of round. Change to 7.0 mm needles, and knit 18 rounds even = approx. 10 cm/4" from cast on edge. Increase 1 st on each side of the marker as follows: k1, m1, knit until 1 stitch left from marker, m1, k1, slip marker. Repeat increase round every 8th round 7 more times = 44 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 47 cm/18.5" from cast on edge. Shape cap: Decrease 1 stitch on each side placing decreases one stitch in from side as follows on RS rows: \*k1, k2tog, knit until 3 sts left (for B from marker), ssk, k1. Repeat from \* for: A) 7 more times = 8 decreases. B) 6 more times = 7 decreases. Work 2 rows. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Cast off all remaining sts. FINISHING - Preferably done in this order: Block pieces\*. Join shoulder seams. Join side seams. Join sleeves. Sew sleeve caps into armholes. You may have to pin it in place and adjust a little bit to get it to fit, but eventuallyyou'llmanage! At center back, with right side facing and US 8 - 5.0 mm needles, pick up 57 sts evenly along neck opening. Work in 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 2 rows. Cast off in rib pattern or using tubular bind-off. This will be the 3rdrow. Weave in all ends, preferably by dividing and weaving each yarn separately. Enjoy! \* To block (if necessary) I usually pin my knitted items on a suitable flat soft space, for ex. a mattress or a sofa cushion. Then cover it with a damp towel and let it dry/rest over night. Hand wash gently, using a mild wool detergent. Wrap in a towel to wring excess water. Lay flat to dry, shape if necessary.
