Instructions

Using smaller needles, cast on 29 sts and work 4 rows of moss st patt as follows: Row 1: \*K1, P1; rep from \* to last st, K1. Row 2: \*K1, P1; rep from \* to last st, K1 Rows 3 and 4, as rows 1 and 2. Next row: K. Still using smaller needles, begin herringbone pattern. Row 1 (WS): P. K next stitch on left hand needle, K2, K2tog, \*K2, K into back of st below next st on left needle leaving st above on left needle, K next st on left needle, K2, K2tog. Rep from \* to endofrow. Rows 1 to 4 form the herringbone pattern. Complete 4 rows using the smaller needles, then change to larger needles. Rep 4 patt rows until desired length achieved. Buttonholes are made on a K row (ie row 2 or 4 of herringbone patt) as follows when desired length reached: Cont in patt for 5 sts, cast off 3sts, patt 5 sts, cast off 3 sts, patt 5 sts, cast off 3 sts, end with patt 5 sts (29 sts worked). Next row: P5, cast on 3 sts, P5, cast on 3 sts, P5, cast on 3 sts, P5 (29 sts). Change to smaller needles and work another herringbone patt rep. Work 4 rows moss st patt. Cast off.

Finishing off

Line with fabric for a neater finish - we suggest using interfacing to strengthen the section where the buttonholes will be cut. Take care not to cut the knitting when cutting the buttonholes themselves. Add 3 buttons to complete the belt. di gilpin 2011 Find more patterns and yarns at www.digilpin.com Ravelry group Di Gilpin Designs Facebook group
