Size Fits 18" dolls

Materials

40g of 4-ply/fingering/sock yarn, 3, 3.25 or 3.5mm needles, whichever size necessary to obtain gauge. The instructions are for the blue cardigan pictured, the other two were made from 3-ply yarns with some mohair content.

Notions

3 stitch markers Stitch holders or spare circular needles or dpns, (bamboo dpns are light weight and not slippery). 3 small buttons.

Gauge

22 sts = 10cm/4" in garter stitch 50 rows = 10cm/4" in garter stitcl

Pattern Notes

The cardigan is knitted all in garter stitch back and forth in rows. Page 1 of 4 Shaping is achieved by short rows throughout (no wrapping). 3 button holes will be worked into the upper portion of the right front edge. Left Front CO 34 sts K 5 rows garter stitch, Row 6: K3 pm, K6 pm, K10 pm, K15, this completes the front border and sets up for the Short RowSequence Short Row Sequence Row 1 (RS): K to first marker, turn work. Rows 2, 4, 6 (WS): K to end. Row 3 (RS): K to second marker, turn work. Row 5 (RS): to third marker, turn work. Rows 7-8: K all sts. Work Rows 1-8 of Short Row Sequence a total of 4 times, then work Rows 1-7 once more

Left Sleeve

Next Row (WS): K14, place last 20 sts on holder, remove marker. CO 18 sts for sleeve = 32 sts on needle Next Row (RS) is row 1 of Short Row Sequence, pm after st 13, turn work. Work Rows 1-8 of Short Row Sequence a total of 9 times, then work Rows 1-7 once more.

Back

Next Row (WS): K14, place last 18 sts on holder, K 20 held sts from previous holder, this joins the front and back without a seam. Work 1-8 of Short Row Sequence a total of 10 times, then work Rows 1-7 once more. Right Sleeve Work as for left sleeve. Right Front Next Row (WS): K14, place last 18 sts on holder, K20 held sts from previous holder, this joins the left front with the back. Work Rows 1-8 of Short Row Sequence a total of 5 times, remove markers. K2rows. Next Row (RS): K18, yo, K2tog, K4, yo, K2tog, K4 yo, K2tog, K2. K 2 rows, bind off.

Finishing

With WS facing, pick up and K 1st in each st along CO edge of one sleeve. Graft (3-needle bind-off) to held sts. Repeat for the other sleeve. Page 2 of 4 Weave in ends, sew on buttons.
