
A quick to knit bag created with unspun Wool Paint roving. It is sewn up with a complimentary colorwash of Impressions yarn. This bag is then fulled-close to felting-to preserve the visibility of the individual stitches.
Materials
2 "Skeins" of 4 Oz Wool Paint Roving (Painted Desert) 120 yards (1 skein) SF Impressions (Persimmon) Size 17 and size 10.5 straight needles Large tapestry needle
Instructions:
Note: Divide roving into knitable strips about $^{1/2}$ inch wide and roll into balls. As you knit-ok to change balls in mid-row. Twist a small tail of previous ball with tail of new ball on Ws. Felting will hold join in place. -CO 30 sts onto #17 needles (Working from top edge down.) Row 1: Knit Row 2: Purl, decrease 1 st each edge. Row 3: Knit Row 4: Purl Row 5: Knit Row 6: Purl, decrease 1 st each edge. Continue St st decreasing 1 st each edge every 4 rows until piece measures 1o inches. Next RS row-Purl (purl ridge). Continue in St st (knit Rs, purl ws) for 2 inches, then do a purl row on Rs for 2nd purl ridge. Work even in St st until piece measures 22 inches. Flap RS: Decrease 1 st each side continuing in St st. -Work 3 rows even. RS: Knit-decrease 1 st each side. -Work 3 rows even. RS: Knit-decrease 1 st each side. WS: purl. RS: Knit-decrease 1 st each side. WS: Purl-decrease 1 st each side. RS: Knit-decrease 1 st each side. BO remaining sts. Strap Using Impressions & #10.5 needles, CO 9 sts. -Work St st for 1.5 inches, then work garter st for desired length or 35 inches. End with 1.5 inches if St st, BO. Finishing Fold bag so that the bottom of bag is in between the durl ridaes.

(see diagram) -Overhand stitch along top edge of bag to stabilize edge. -Attach strap on either side of the bag with 1.5 inch edge sewn to inside of bag on either side of the flap. -Create a short fringe along flap of bag by using 2 five inch strands of Impressions. Fold strands in half and pull folded end through edge of flap end with crochet hook, insert ends through loop and pull to tighten. Repeat fringe along flap.
Felting:
Using top loading washer, fill $1/4$ way with hot water, add liquid detergent-and maybe a small towel to help in agitation. Place bag and allow washer to agitate on normal setting-for about 3 minutes. Check bag. Continue in 3 minute intervals until bag is felted enough to hold shape, yet still hold stitch definition. (Note: all washers have different rates of agitation. Times of felting are approximate.) -Let washer rinse and spin to remove most of water. -Shape bag (l put mine over end of ironing board,) and let dry. Enjoy!
