Using C1, cast on 36, 12sts on each needle Work 17 rounds: K1, [P1, K2] to last 2 stitches, P1, K1 Round 18: Keeping in pattern as established arrange the stitches as follows: 9 on needles 1 and 3, 18 on needle 2.

MATERIALS

HEEL FLAP

Next: keep in pattern and work across needle 1 Using C2 begin working the 18sts on needle 2 for the heel flap as follows: Row 1: slip 1, knit to end Row 2, slip 1, purl to end Repeat these two rows 5 more times, 12 rows worked in total

TURN HEEL

Row 1: slip 1, K9, K2tog, K1, turn (5sts left unworked) Row 2: slip 1, P3, P2tog, P1, turn (5sts left unworked) Row 3: slip 1, K to 1 stitch before gap, K2tog across the gap, K1, turn Row 4: slip 1, P to 1 stitch before gap, P2tog across the gap, P1, turn Continue working the last two rows until all stitches have been worked and you have 10sts. After working row 4th the last time turn and knit across all 10 stitches.

GUSSET

Slide the last 5 stitches worked onto a free needle and then, with C3 and the new needle, pick up a stitch in each slipped stitch alongside of the heel flap, 7 stitches in total for the instep, this is now needle 1. Knit across the next 18 stitches - these will be the top of the foot on needle 2. Pick up 7 more stitches down the second side of the heel flap and knit 5 stitches onto the same needle - this will be needle 3. Next round: knit Pattern by Jessica Powers GUSSETDECREASE DECREASEROUNDONE Needle 1: K to the last 3 sts. K2tog, K1. Needle 2: K all Needle 3: K1, SSK, K to end. DECREASEROUNDTWO All needles: K all Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are only 9 stitches on both needles 1 and 3. FOOT Continue knitting the foot for 2 1/2 ". TOE Row 1: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts. K2tog, k1. Needle 2: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. Needle 3: K1, ssk, knit across. Row 2: Knit Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 12 stitches remain. Divide the stitches evenly onto two needles. Graft together with Kitchener stitch.
